Description

Trig Point

A Trig Point or Trig Station is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

This trig is listed as a Trig Station on the ACT Planning and Land Authority Survey Control Marks Database  http://www.actpla.act.gov.au/tools_resources/maps_land_survey/surveying_data/surveyors_information/survey_control_marks

Marked on NSW Land and Property Information topographic map, Bungendore 8727-2N at GR 054905.

Parked at gate & did the nice steep walk up to trig – nice views along the way – in the back of my mind I would love to drive up here – would be a nice drive up – maybe not. Took many photos of the view of Canberra – many thanks

what a climb.

This is not my first time on this hill, about half a year ago I came and did the cache here on a hike through Koween as part of the tail of the Roo but I totally spaced on the Trig. Had not loaded those caches I guess plus the trig hides well as I can see now so I didn't spot it while up here. Today with less than 200m from the top of the hill again, doing a FTF in the vicinity, I could not resist to also come the extra way up here to get this trig after all. Great views as reward when turning around to go down again!

I was in Kowen today with Smitten Granny visiting the Challenge Caches and a few of the roo series.
We drove past this one twice, so decided we should stop to get an image.

Thanks

Well it is high enough to be a trig and could be wuite useful before all the trees grew up around it but unlike traditional trigs. But found it today with Albida. Thanks for publishing this trig Geocaching Australia. ClappingClan CerberusClan Cerberus

After completing some GA cache series, Wazza9 said we could walk up and get this trig, with no water or walking pole.

what a challenge.
after doing an element cache below, decided to go for it.
great views.

Wasn't planning to do this on a cold windy day, however after doing the caches lower down found only around 500 m or so from the trig, and decided to go there anyway. Some very steep sections just before the top. Fantastic views over Canberra, Queanbeyan and Kowen Forest, didnt realize how extensive it is.

A challenge for both my 82yo friend and me! Lovely area up the top - time to go for one more.

#2 Found this one while out doing a stretch of the Kowen 'Roo. I think by this stage we had hiked about 22Km and were stalling the descent to where we parked. It was a long climb up here & we were not looking forward to the steep descent on already worn legs.
I've not seen one of these type of caches before but TankEngine enlightened us. TFTC.

This is my first GCA cache. Only recently discovered the parallel world of GCA caching. Wasn't really sure how it worked but Tankengine enlightened me during a trip with he and StrangeTrousers into Kowen forest to get some of the kowen roo. Got this one on the way back. Wish there was a zip line down this awful hill! Now I just have to work out how to attach a photo to this log, LOL Wink

It is a long hike up this hill. Every corner gives a new steep section of track. When you think it just must be the end it has yet another section.

26-Jul-15
A bonus find on a day out with McPhan, cashing kangaroos in Kowen forest. A cold windy day, but a nice day spent out in the fresh air nonetheless.

26-Jul-15
859. By no means the largest trig we've ever seen - more like a plaque on the ground. Even calling it a plaque is too grandiose.

TFTT and the saxophone.

Picked up at the end of a walk with Captain Tomato and mr_roo collecting caches in the Kowen Roo series. Wow, great views and a steep descent back to the car parked at the gate. Glad I approached this one from the north. TFTC Smile

Picked this one up with Kittykatch and Mr Roo. Nice views

A big climb to get up here. Passed this spot on the way out but was having trouble loading GCA caches via the app, so grabbed on the way back. If I'd paid more attention, I might have notice the trig rather than relying on the app to tell me where it was!

Thanks

Found while doing the Kowen Roo powertrail nearby. After getting the nearby cache, we quickly took a photo of this trig before heading off to the next cache. Lovely view. TFTC GCA! Clan CerberusClan CerberusClan Cerberus

#GA483 - 14:55; After a couple of years of being neglected, it seems that the local cachers have accepted the challenge to 'Go for the Trig', including me today. Bagged the GCA traditional at the foot of the hill and then took the 20-25 minute climb to the top. At one point I thought I'd spotted a track which would take me down and then up again, but luckily it didn't work out to be that way. After grabbing a few deep breaths at the summit, it was photo time, then off to a nearby GC cache before making the descent. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

I was disappointed not to find a proper marker and was going to dispute the trig status, but the name plate says it all.

23-Feb-15
Found whilst in the area. No trig structure, but the marker on the ground was nice and clear.

11-Feb-15
Yes a rather steep little walk indeed. I wandered over here, grabbed a pic and then ventured slightly of the path before heading back down. This one doesn't get many visitors!

That is one steep little walk....and after bashing the ACT border in this area, it was great to finally get here. Walked in from Sutton Road and took a good 35 minutes as the sun was really starting to do its thing.

Trig found ok...and then it was about 20 minute return trip.....not as many stops...

GCA 480 - 4907. A Trig 'find' on the way home today.

With a bit of spare time I decided to visit this Trig that not many other cachers had claimed. Steeeeep approach but slow and steady and it was only about 25 mins from car to Trig. Well - as MBO states - the trig plate anyway ! Couple of photos then off down the hill to make my way home...

TFTC !!
