Description

Pole Point TS10571

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Pole Point.

Serial number is: TS10571.

Last Inspected on: No data.

Elevation is: 153 metres.

It also bears the number S17, probably used during Warragamba Dam construction.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

After doing a solo trip to Warragamba Dam last week I headed back today with MrT and trig expert rogerw3. With access to some areas on the weekends rogerW3 was interested to take a closer look at a few of the trigs there. With binoculars and cameras and topo map we were able to confirm that this trig is the one listed. Thanks rogerW3 for the help. TFTT

#GA1361 - 12:34; Doing the 'Tour de Wollondilly' with Sol de lune and andrewbt to collect a few trigs and other bits and pieces. We had now reached Warragamba Dam, where we hoped to bag a dozen or so trigs. Unfortunately the viewing platform was as close as we could get today, so we only wound up with six finds. Looks like a trip back on a weekend when it is possible to get down along the dam wall.

We did identify what seem to be two unpublished trigs (Prang Point and what could be S13). In the process it seems others may be incorrectly claiming what I think could be S13 as Pole Point and the real Pole Point as S27. Looking at the GCA map, this trig is further along and up the hill than the trig shown in the gallery for earlier logs. The photo I've included here is the trig further along and up the hill, which others have logged as S27. The map seems to indicate that S27 is further up near the top of the ridge and not visible from the viewing area at the dam. Might be worth checking out. I need a better lens...or I just need to stop shaking from my fear of heights.

Out to Warragamba Dam with rogerw3 and pjmpjm for a walk around and, as it proved, a handful of near and distant(monitoring) trigs circling the dam. Pole Point 'rediscovered' but a distance across from the current public viewing area.

Should probably be unarchived since it is visible from the dam wall.

Just noticed this one on the other side in the no access zone but still visible from the dam.
