Description

Manly Original Trig

This is the site of the original Manly Trig set up in December 1881, while strictly speaking no longer a Trig Station, but the historical value alone dictate that this be listed as a Trig even if it does not have a TS serial number. That role has been taken over by the recreation Trig TS2962 'Manly' 4-5 meters away, note that the term recreation is the official wording from the Department of Land.

I photographed everything I could see around the new trig, as I could not recall what the nature of the old one was. Was it a pin in the ground? There were a few of them! The plaque answered my question.

Nice to see the original trig is still being used, at least for an orientation table. Will add a Waymark for that some time.

Came up here for the multi and found not one, but two trigs. This is the position of the original, marked by the historical society with this plate.

Parked at the nearby oval and walked up the hill to find this one. Great view!

2 for 1 Trig! Very Happy Zhaoy and I got some great photos on dusk from here. I like the old Trig but it is nice to see the newer one standing too. Add the flag pole, multi, and other features of historic value nearby and this is one busy little cache area!

A fascinating piece of history, with great views to boot,
well worth the stop off on the way past, especially as there are two trigs "in the bargain".

11-May-11
Found together with rogerw3 while logging the nearby Manly Trig.

This old structure is identified on its 'top plate' as the original 'trigometrical station' from December 1881. The commemorative plaque was placed in 1929.

The posted information (see photos) seems to be more than enough to allow this spot to be considered an official trig.

There's an extremely good lookout here as well, with spectacular views towards the ocean and also towards Sydney.

'Four Thumbs Up' rating for historical interest and great views.

Found this one with pjmpjm while actually looking for the "Manly" Trig a few meters away. This was quite unexpected but I think it should be treated as a Trig for the historical value alone.

Well I can retrospectively claim a find on this as we photographed it at the time we got the nearby trig. Also a time capsule here. (Should make a locationless for time capsules.)
Will look for the photos.
