Description

A simple Water tower trig on the Great North Road.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Breakfast stop on a trip up for Grandads birthday and the kids wanted to find some Trigs. Chose a few easy water reservoir finds to aim for.
Another quick stopover find. We drove right up to the water tower behind the rural fire shed, and spent a bit of time exploring the nearby cemetary.

Dayboro trip. Day 5. My time In Waughope and Port Macquarie had come to an end and today was a driving day to Casino via Grafton and Coffs Harbour. Mostly highway driving till the crossing of Coffs Harbour. The bypass cannot come soon enough. I managed to find caches in four of my last six non-Sydney Counties and even made it to Casino in time to log before dinner. The trip is in flux with Covid, but the days so far have been fun.

On my detour into Fredrickton, I passed this trig on the water tower.

Thanks
Albida

Finally managed to stop and take a photo of this Trig, have passed it many times but always seemed to forget. We are on our way home from a regular geocaching trip and I asked geohubby to pull over for a minute while I took the photo, had to be from the car window 'cos it was raining quite heavily.

#GA2687 - 11:10; Day four of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune. After leaving the Mega yesterday afternoon and caching our way to Taree where we spent the night at a local caravan park, the plan for today was to cache our way north past Port Macquarie, then through Kempsey, Macksville, Urunga, Coffs Harbour, Grafton, Casino, Lismore and into Ballina in preparation for some caching around Byron and the Tweed before setting sail south again for home. Although not part of the original itinerary, I was able to collect a few more caches in Taree, which Sdl had picked up on previous visits. We were now headed north, caching our way along the highway and after a tour of Kempsey, stopped to grab a snap of this trig as we passed through Frederickton on our way back to the highway. I looked at the satellite image before coming here and cab say I'm glad I didn't have to walk through the neighbouring property in the rain to get this trig. Smile

We took a detour on the way south today to duck into Fredo Pies for lunch, certainly worth a small detour even though now bypassed by the highway. And you can duck back out to the freeway so you don't have to go through Kempsey anyway. Spotted this water tower on the way in, so found the road up the the RFS HQ almost underneath the water tower for the pics.

Thanks for the hunting and trig

Drove right up to this 1. Have done a few trigs today so decided to have the Beetlemobile in this one instead of one of us. Mr Beetle was supposed to be holding the GPS out the window but I don't think I managed to capture that in my photo. Thanks.

A simple drive by find. Stopped in Fredrickton many times (for pies)but never been off the highway. Next time I do turn off though I'll make sure I'm heading north when I do. Had to wait for about 5 minutes until there was a break in traffic to get back out.

McPhan had this in his GPS from the trip planning and sure enough, this was really easy to get to.

416. Amazed that this has had only one other finder. Well we grabbed it today while traveling through the area. In fact we later found another trig that we'll look at publishing.

Woot *FTF*.

I was stuck behind an idiot coming back from Brisbane, so I diverted to see what was here in Fredickton. Stopped to walk through the cemetary, and was side tracked by the water tower.

I was surprised to discover an unmarked trig - so surprised in fact, that I forgot to wander through the cemetary!!!

Oh well, here's another reason to divert from the highway and have a break.
