Description

Wentworth Tower TS10217

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Wentworth Tower.

Serial number is: TS10217.

Last inspected on: No Data.

Elevation is: 930 meters.

Very unusual as this is part of a group of 3 Trig Stations very close to each other, Podgers TS10212, this Tower TS10217 and the other smaller Tower TS10582.

Possibly a very accurate position was required for these transmission towers as they are used for Air Navigation.

This one is the tallest of the 2 towers, the Trig Point is the top of the tower.

We headed out along Tableland Rd this morning for a trig feast, plus a side of a pair of GC caches, in freezing conditions. With an air temperature of 6 degrees and some howling winds, it felt like zero or less, and I wished I'd bought my gloves! We fussed around a bit here, the kids were a bit spooked by the locked gate, we headed down the track to the west, but it got pretty gnarly fast, so we parked and walked across the grass to get our photos, a triple-trig stop, always happy with that.

Out in the beautiful weather with Outdoornut22 we decided to head for the mountains and I'm glad we did because I love the view! the two towers here were an easy spot we even could see them from where we decided to stop for our lunch break at Lincoln rock, which is a beautiful spot to stop along the way if your ever out this way

Sophoutloud and I decided we had to make use of the beautiful day the weekend had provided us and after a bit of deliberation on the Geocaching Australia map we decided that Kings Tableland would be a good day outing to somewhere we hadn't been in a while with the bonus of being able to get 7 trigs and a virtual. All the Trigs we found were in great condition and most were tidy and well painted. walking trough the bush up here was pretty easy at the moment as there is still no undergrowth although it is pretty sad to see the many trees have been damaged to an extent that they were really struggling to shoot out sprouts and keep growing. 3 easy trigs in close proximity here, we drove on the trail around the back to the cliff side to get access to the pillar easy in our 4wd but an easy walk if you don't have high wheels.

#GA2516 - 12:10; Day two of a caching run to the Blue Mountains with Sol de lune. After making our way through to Katoomba yesterday, the plan for today is to head a bit further west as far as Mount Victoria before heading east again through Medlow Bath, Katoomba (again), Leura, Wentworth Falls, Hazelbrook and Woodford, before heading on to the Sydney International Equestrian Centre at Horsley Park for some new caches, then hit the road for home. After some wandering in the bush near Mount Victoria we were well on our way east again. We headed into this area to grab a puzzle cache, which allowed me to pick up the three trigs as well, as Sdl had snapped them on a previous visit. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

A nice easy find near where I parked the car for the nearby cache. Another unusual trig.

The NSW Department of Lands has officially designated this unmissable communications tower on Tableland Road in south Wentworth Falls as TS10217.

Logged it and its neighbour while heading for the new GCA 'Jamison' not far away.

Have been around here several times, both sight-seeing and geocaching, but didn't know these towers were official trigs.

Easy photo at the end of the sealed driveway, in front of the locked gate.

Thanks to rogerw3 for alerting us to the status of this trig.

20-May-11
Found today while out to hide a couple caches in the area. Pretty hard to miss, this is the tallest of the 2 towers. Quite spectacular, don't know why both towers are Trig Stations.
