Description

Maroubra Res TS10744R

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Maroubra Res.

Serial number is: TS10744R.

Last Inspected on: April, 1981.

Elevation is: 80 metres

Trig is on the edge of the reservoir. It is visible from the eastern side on Fowler Crescent between a couple of houses. It is a traditional trig with the vanes, so don't be fooled by the various communications towers on the site.

Although I only live less than a km from the reservoir I was unaware of its existence. Over the years I've noticed persons doing maintenance on the communications tower. I circumnavigated the reservoir but couldn't sight the traditional trig with vanes. Perhaps all the existing tree/shrub growth is obliterating the trig.

A trip past here and it was hard to find the best access, but as it was not first attempt I think I found a working aspcet for this TP.

Difficult one to shoot. I know this is not what has been offered before, but has certainly been shown more recently. I asked a local if I could walk down his driveway to take a photo and got the go ahead.

Well this seems to have changed heaps since LukyL10n was here almost two years ago, lots of cell towers have gone up where the little beacon used to be and it seems even harder to see the remains of the disk. I will try again. to give it another go after having seen the last picture. But the cell tower might be the closest thing to find.

#GA530 - 11:55; I was in Sydney on a day trip with the geohoney, who had an appointment nearby. We were a little early and decided to drop by Maroubra for a quick look around and perhaps a spot of lunch. The lunch bell hadn't rung yet, so a spot of caching was in order to build an appetite. Parked in the suggested area in Fowler Crescent and found a spot where I could get a shot of the water tower. It looks like there has been some work done in the area. I had to come back to this one since 'Richary' found the only spot from which a photo could be taken.
Sure enough, I walked all the way around this large reservoir and there is this one and only spot where the Trig can be seen. Beside I think that in a matter of a few weeks it will be completely obscured by the spring growth on the trees in front.
So go get it while you can.

*FTF* on this one, had to go there for work as we are interested in the tower south of the reservoir for some links for Randwick Council. So I needed to check the tower to see what it looked like so I could tell if I could see it from the other locations. It's a pretty busy one with lots of mobile transmitters on it.

Anyway, driving around the unusual water tank on the street finally gave me a view of the trig. It can be seen from the eastern side on Fowler Crescent between a couple of houses if you get in the right spot.

Third day of trigging, another 12km walk should have been 3 of 4 finds. Unfortunately I now realise that what I thought was the Trig is not and it may not be visible from any angle, I will have to return and do this one again to double check.
By the way the Communications tower is NOT the trig.
