Logs
Nearly 2 years unloved and my first trig for quite a while. Wifey and I did an 11km loop around Bobbin Head today, just spied the pile from the track, not too far off.
Out jogging around Bobbin Head, this was enroute, and a nice place to take it easy given we had just come up the hill. It took a bit of time to figure out how deep into the bush we needed to go - as others have pointed out, this does seem a strange place for a trig. Anywho, TFTT
A nice easy mountain bike ride to both trigs on these trails. This one is not far in from the trail. No sign of the post and vanes.

After visiting the nearby virtual "A Little Bit of Egypt" and "Jacomb" trig, I was going to head back to the car but couldn't resist to go just a bit further to check out "Bobbin". Passed plenty of walkers on this pleasant afternoon. Trig is in much better shape than its neighbour but still not complete. Very happy to have made this extra detour. Plenty of flowers and warm sun filtering in through the trees. Also stopped to check out the aboriginal rock carvings which were very impressive.

Well, I did find the trig on Monday, it was just at 2308 hours (at NIGHT). After an easy walk to Jacomb, I continued on down a wide, 'white' gravel track, without using my headlight for 80% of the walk, as the ambient light was just enough. It was about 1.5 km from Jacomb, and I was busy checking out the stars as I walked, and when I thought I must be about there, the GPSr beeped, to say that I had just another 200 m before I was to turn off.
Just about 30 metres off the track, and there is the old stone cairn, built in 1883. WOW! Reasonable condition.
There was a laminated note tied to a nearby tree for a State Emergency Services Exercise in 2002, and it was supposed to have been removed a fortnight later (but obviously NOT), so I took it with me.

This was my first stop on what turned out to be a very long trip. I must second the opinion that it seems like a weird spot for a trig.
Easy to find when you've got the coordinates, but don't know how many times I've walked on the path past this one without even knowing it was there. Which brings me to wonder, why is it there?! Not much happening from a 'view' point of view. They must have had to clear an awful lot of bush back in the day, for it to be seen from elsewhere. Everyone will be happy to hear that note from kuringai emergency services remains intact too, although looking a bit battered now it's 12.

Came up the trail from Bobbin Head on a coolish morning. The remains were a welcome sight as it is always good to find remnants of the old ones (c 1882). There is still more than half of this one left. Found at 8.03am.

Nice day for a walk - went from Bobbin Head cafe to St Ives, taking in as many caches and trigs as I could. This one was pretty straightforward.

Picked the kids up after school and did the walk in. Saw an echidna, then had a look at the rock carvings before spotting some Waratahs before GZ. The track (or should we say bush highway) was busy with lots of muggles. We could see GZ fromthe track and made our way easily over to it. Had a wrestle for Geosportz. Thanks

Pushed on from Jacomb after a back track to the main trail and then it was a long easy walk along the way to this one. Stopped at the Aboriginal carvings on the way - not as easy to see as others I've found around this park but always nice to see some more.
Someone is doing experiments on some sort of sawdust in containers here and there. No idea what though.
There's a sign by this cairn about a navigation exercise in the area in August 2002 and that the sign was to be removed by 31 August 2002. Only ten years late, who's counting?
Nice cairn.

Nice cairn.
On a great walk from Bobbin Head and back, we stopped by this trig. Lovely bush near here and the cairn is mostly all there too.
Yet another FTF trig found together with rogerw3 on our afternoon trig hunting jaunt.
A bit of a walk was necessary, but the fire trail was excellent. And the rain held off, making for a very pleasant trek.
A brief bush bash off the fire trail then took us straight to the well-shaped rock cairn -- not 'de-piled' like Jacomb.
Once again, rogerw3's accurate calculated coordinates took us straight to GZ.
Lots of fun and very enjoyable to see how much care went into shaping the cairn.
'Three Thumbs Up' for the FTF and great condition of cairn.

Trig number 2 along the Bobbin Head Track, wide enough to be called a road, but closed to traffic. A very pleasant and very easy walk, the Trig is a short 30 metres bush bash off the track. It is in very good condition, minus the post and vanes, my guess is that the locating pin is still in the center of the cairn as it does not look to have been disturbed.
This spot has been used in August 2002 for rescue exercises, and also nearby are several possum / wallabies feeding stations, part of a Sydney Uni study. Please do not touch or disturb these in any way, thank you.

Located right near a trail -- I'll bet we can find this one with no trouble at all.
