Description

This trigpoint is located on top of a water tower in Casino NSW. You can get a good view of the trig from down below.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

We decided to test out luck and drive up around the water tower. We managed to get a good look and found the trig point on top easily, but ended up at the head of somebody's driveway. A quick reverse down soon had us out of trouble.

Thanks for the trig point listing!

Arrr yes, I love seeing art on structures like this. Well done Casino. I visited a Trig on the north side of Brisbane last week and next to it was a large water tank. The thing had nothing. It was just a big empty canvas screaming for some attention. It was disappointing to look at, and quite frankly, ugly. This one is NOT disappointing Smile Image taken. A nice find for my 6th Trig of the day.. and my day continues..
Thanks for the cache.

On the road from Coffs to Byron today, we've taken the 'back-road' through Grafton/Casino and Lismore, mainly to grab a bag of trigs, and a few caches thrown in too.... We had to nearly circumnavigate this one to spot the trig...

Dayboro trip. Day 6. Today I was caching between two counties one either side of Casino. West in the morning to Kyogle, but I did not visit the town and then East to Lismore, but just skirted the edge. The afternoon was spent in Casino doing the Where-i-gos and the Challenge caches. A great day and my last non-Sydney Counties with a find done.

Another water Tower.

Thanks

A drone would come in handy to check the installations at the top but this is as close as Pprime and I got to seeing it.

I have passed this water tower before but from the opposite direction. The lighting at night time makes the tower look like a UFO. But maybe that's just me.

The water tower built in 1938 is still used for the town water supply. Richmond Valley Council is intending to give the Art Deco tower an artistic makeover by decorating with a mural to reflect Casino and the Richmond Valley.

#GA2700 - 16:00; Day four of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune. After leaving the Mega yesterday afternoon and caching our way to Taree where we spent the night at a local caravan park, the plan for today was to cache our way north past Port Macquarie, then through Kempsey, Macksville, Urunga, Coffs Harbour, Grafton, Casino, Lismore and into Ballina in preparation for some caching around Byron and the Tweed before setting sail south again for home. Although not part of the original itinerary, I was able to collect a few more caches in Taree, which Sdl had picked up on previous visits. On our way in to Grafton, we saw that there were traffic delays near Woodburn which we might get caught up in if we stuck to the highway, so after finishing our caching mission there we decided to continue along Summerland Way through to Casino instead. That led us to this trig as we made our way into the town. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Day 4 of a trek along the NSW coast to Tweed Heads after attending the Morisset event with LuckyL10n. Another day with lots of trigs grabbed...along with the odd traditional or two.

No problem with the find here and the required photo was soon snapped.

Thanks for another trig.....

While in Casino on my way home to Taree from an Event at 'Lismore' / Goonellabah, I stopped by this 'Unloved' trig to get a photo, and see if I can add it (the trig, or at least the water reservoir) to the Waymarking site.

One of the most impressive water towers that we've seen. Thanks.

31-Dec-12
I finally got around to logging this one. I've past it so many times but never actually stopped.

13-Dec-12
Took this photo from the car as it was raining quite heavily and we were too chicken to get out.

We found this cache through Toriaz's sheer desire for one. The whole time we were in Casino, we didn't see the trig, even though we looked. As we were leaving Casino, we ended up on the right side of the water tower, so we had to turn back to get this one. Thanks

10-Jun-12
We saw the water reservoir when we first drove into Casino & I checked it out for a trig. None visible. But I kept looking every time we went past, & eventually we were at the right side to spot the trig on top.

03-Oct-11
Spent a couple of hours in Casino today and spied this trig on the tank, so McPhan and I took it in turn to take photos.

413. Round we drove thinking that it might not be visible but finally there it popped into view. From there it was a matter of trying to get all required things in the photo.

TFTT and the downer.

I have seen this trig point many times as I've driven between Coraki and Casino. I don't think there's a (legal) way to get up there though!
