Description

Charles TS?

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Charles Old.

Serial number is: TS not allocated.

Last Inspected on: June 17, 1977.

Elevation is: 934 metres.

Another interesting trig, the original Trig Mark carved in the rock is still there to be found.  The new Steel pillar type trig was put in place on June 17, 1977 when the original cairn type trig was unpiled uncovering the original Trig Mark.

Another spot we've driven past a lot, but only taken the time to stop today. We parked 60m or so west of the trigs, and froggered across the road and up the rocky/spiky/brushy slope, to find the trig and a half!

Sophoutloud and I needed an excuse to get out of the house so we decided to drive 'Bells Line' to Lithgow and grab a few trigs on the way through. We managed to grab 13 across the day to bump up our trig count significantly. we had a great day out and most of the trigs we found were in great conditions, some even looked like they had a new coat of paint. It is cool to see these old carved points be painted up in yellow so they are visible. It was a little challenging getting over the road to this one as the road was busy today but there is good safe parking on the northern side of the road close by

Another one of my favorite two for the effort of one. As one of the previous logs stated I really do believe crossing bells line of road is probably one of the most dangerous parts of finding these trigs. They were both in such good condition. It almost looked like someone had been out and given these trigs a new coat of paint since the bushfires!

At GZ for this one I found a star stake that had been driven into the rock

stopped here on the way to Lithgow to get the 2 trigs & the cache nearby. A nice climb to the top after disturbing a lot of spiders went a different way down and disturbed a different set of spiders. The view from the top was worth it. Thanks for the trig

I'd call this a bucket list trig. I had been here twice before and just didn't feel confident of tackling it. Today I had Sir Phil with me, and we managed it with ease. The toughest and most dangerous part is the traffic on Bells Line of Road.

Grabbed these two as I heading past. A quick download to facebook so my friends knew I was actually caching.....and all was good.

My 30+ year old trig log book is getting a bit worse for wear, but it records that I had found and photographed Charles (probably the Charles New actually) on Wednesday, 27/2/1985, 1018. GR56538392 on the Mount Wilson (1st Edition) map (AusGeo66).
So to re-record it I stopped off after the Geocaching NSW Event at Katoomba. Only a short section of thick scrub that was easily skirted around. Found the chiseled mark and photographed that as best as possible. Nice to revisit. BTW, that day in 1985 I was able to find 12 trigs.

After a quick find on the STBMPT cache, there was the ponder over the location for the two Charles. On 'that' hill it seemed and it was off to wander in the general direction. The 'mushroom is a tentative soul at best, so it was with some misgivings the above the roadside clamber was undertaken - and somewhat disconcerting with the brittleness of stone.

A couple of paces from New Charles trig, can be found the triangled outline of the old Charles complete with pin.

On a windless, sunny day the peace was barely interrupted with the low traffic on the BLoR and the grand almost 360° view could be taken in. Both New and the Old Charles were duly noted (trig finds 99 and 100).

A suitably happy surprise too, with an 'uneventful' downhill return.

A nice climb to the top for this great trig and wonderful views

What a fabulous spot! The view from up here is just stunning

About to lose light so last trig today. Park about 200m towards Lithgow and take care crossing the road as you head back to the trig. Found the Mark and got a photo. Lovely twilight over the valley

Found "Charles Old" right next to Charles. A distinctive mark surrounded by yellow paint.

1405, our last trig for Geoson and I today on our trip up the Bells Line of Road, the hole and marker still clearly visible Very Happy

A short climb for a great view and a double trig to boot!

A nifty surprise for rogerw3 and me after we'd clambered up to this lovely vantage point above Bells Line of Road -- the old trig marker and location pin hole still in place, with its own TS number issued by the NSW Department of Lands.

Thanks to rogerw3 for his research in discovering that this one is 'on the books' -- making another excellent 'double trig' experience!

And nearby we even found an unnumbered SSM . . .

And did I mention the great views?

'Three Thumbs Up' for all the above reasons.

Trig number 5 on our trigging expedition along the Bells Line of Road with pjmpjm. This one was quite a surprise as we did not expect to find the original trig mark, but there can be no doubt it is well marked. Our second double trig for the day.
