Description

Bonna TS10666F

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Bonna.

Serial number is: TS10666F.

Last Inspected on: August 13, 1979.

Elevation is: 5 metres.

This trig was discovered by WanderingAus who logged it as a survey mark back on 19 September 2010 while looking for another cache.  I (Yurt) spotted the pictures amongst the logs for NSW Survey Marks (locationless) and recognised a trig.  Confirmation from rogerw3 followed.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Out for a little visit at the point. Hopefully not too many more storms or this one might end up laying flat on the beach. There is a little cliff eroded in front, making for interesting climbing!

One of four finds for the morning while out exploring the Kurnell Peninsula.

Strolled over to this trig after finding a nearby GC cache. I was keen on finding this one and making my 100th GCA find. Took a little wandering back and forth to find the right approach to the trig but once I was on the beach it was easily spotted. The trig is standing proudly on the edge of the bushes with one of the best views across Botany Bay. This is the most up close and personal I have got with a trig so could not resist a photo touching it.

This brings up my 100th GCA find! looking forward to many more.
Thanks for the trig Geocaching Australia

Very well hidden in the scrub. I walked around it so many times. It's so close to the beach!

I dropped off GeoDirk and HanorahTLG at the scouts camp in Kurnell this morning and went for this one. Ignored the "Papa! The car is the other way around!" and "Excuse me sir, you're not supposed to be here." calls and snapped a quick photo.

Have never been out here....and now I want to bring my wife back so we can check out the landing spot up the road. Enjoy our history.

Easy find once at GZ....all good.

#GA558 - 12:25; I was back in Sydney with the geohoney for an event and as we were early, too early to check in to the hotel as well, we decided to go for a drive around to Kurnell and perhaps grab a cache or two while we were at it. I had this one up my sleeve, so we parked near the boat ramp and took a short walk to GZ. The trig is behind a little more undergrowth now than it was for the last visitor, but still fairly easily found. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Found @ 1440. Tho I didn't have the trig marked on the GPSr (basically NOTHING was left) I had a fair idea of where it could be.
I had been near here a couple times over the last 2 years getting a few of the challenging caches in Quibray Bay. Sure enough, found it after walking out a bit further on the spit.
No name plate, but it has been recently painted I take it, as there did seem to be any graffiti mentioned by others. Also 'grabbed' the Waymark.

This one is an easy find and worth coming to Kurnell for a visit with views across Botany Bay.

Nice short walk out to the point to find this one.

third and last trig for today, after a long loop around the Kurnell peninsula, it was a great day quite hot but the sea breeze did cool me down a bit.
This Trig has lost its mast and vanes a long time ago and the name plate has gone also. It is being claimed by the vegetation and by next year will be quite hidden I would think.

On the most perfect summer's day, we came to Kurnell for a walk. At the end of the day, we headed out to this point and discovered it was kite-boarding mecca when the wind is up! What a lovely area

14-Nov-11
Back in the Kurnell area for the 3rd time in 5 days, I had a few minutes to spare before work and zipped down to grab this trig virtual cache.
A nice peaceful spot - if you can ignore the jets landing over the top of you constantly.

A quick park and grab, with a lovely view.

WanderingAus wandered by on day 131 of our 2010 annual Climatic Refugee trip, hunting down GC1DTHX Shire’s Treasure #1 by Elizabeth Carter on Bonna Point in Botany Bay, and found this unusual Survey Marker only 30 metres from the cache. As for the cache, hidden in what could only be described as a rubbish dump, it has five DNFs and no finds over a nine month period, a Needs Maintenance Log seven months ago with no response, and another Needs Maintenance Log two months ago with no response. Needless to say I didn't find it either.

I make it a Difficulty 1 Terrain 1.5.

I just received a message from Yurt, who wrote "A while ago I spotted a find of yours in the NSW Survey Marks locationless. I recognised it as a trig and confirmed the name with Roger W. I've only just got around to publishing it - lost the link. As you logged it back then you can now log it as a trig find! FTF and all!" Mr. Green .

How nice was that? and Yurt even included the url for my NSW Survey Marks log AND for this Benchmark. A two for one, it doesn't get much better than that Dancing (well, I have had a three for one once or twice).

*Recommended* *Overall Experience: 3* *FTF*
