Description

Rooty Hill TS3944D

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Rooty.

Serial number is: TS3944D.

Last Inspected on: No Data.

Elevation is: 69 metres.

Sadly, this trig is no more. The original cairn was unpiled and destroyed when the Western Sydney Parkland was created and the area grassed over. To replace this trig, the PM47500 (Permanent Marker) was set up in almost the same location, a couple meters away, but this is not the Trig!

It is interesting that the original location pin is still there to be found, a small copper plug on a little patch of concretea couple meters South of the PM marker. Of course, it will soon be overgrown and very difficult to find.

This trig should  not to be confused with another set up mark, a GIP (Galvanized Iron Pipe) in a small patch of concrete on the other side of the PM. This is well rusted but still there and will also eventually be covered over by the spring growth.

Found with WaywardWoman on an impromptu cache outing. After being stuck inside with a cold this week WW picked me up to look for 2 GC caches in the nearby reserve. Headed up the hill and arrived at GZ. Saw both a small gravelly patch and a survey coords plate and wasnt sure which one to photograph as both have been logged previously. I didn't have my GPS with me as I used the phone app so decided to photograph my trip Mascot/TB at the Survey marker. TFTT

#GA1307 - 13:30; Day 3 of a caching mission in and around Sydney with Sol de lune. After passing by, we managed to turn around and park in the obvious spot before I headed up the hill to grab a snap as Sdl had found this one on a previous visit. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

A quick find of where the trig once stood.

This was a good steady climb up the hill to get to the TP. Spotted both the trig point and PM nearby

This time I came with an understanding of the difference between a trig and a survey marker.

Climb the hill on the immaculately kept parklands to find ... CRIKEY!, there are six markers. Thankfully the descriptive text above clearly indicated the PM hatch is NOT the trig, but then there were still five other markers to sort. I will have a chat with rogerw3 before adding the required pics. No surprise a trig station was upon this hill, with near to 360° views.

Awesome views

I was on a mission today to clean up this plethora of trigs in western Sydney. I'd done all my local NW and NE ones but I thought I'd better try and get these cleaned up. Stopped in the driveway to the hill and walked up. I'd never realised what a substantial hill Rooty hill actually is. A quick find of the survey mark hatch.

I too found the peg and the PM, and not sure which was the Trig. So photographed both. AWESOME views indeed Very HappyClapping

Went for the find after a nearby trad cache. Found both the peg on the concrete and one under the steel lid. Not sure which one is the necessary but photographed both of them. I would have loved to find a mast and vanes at this location, would have been a nice up close trig find.

I was accompanied here by rogerw3, who'd logged the trig earlier. If not for the nearby PM, this one would be easy to miss!

Nice panoramic views around the horizon.

Can imagine that this was once a very appropriate trig site.

Now, I guess it's just matter of time until the final remains disappear under the turf.

A walk up the hill and we took the photo. The view from here is the best around here.

I almost did not bother with this one as there is nothing to be seen on Google Earth as you would expect since this trig was destroyed many years ago.
I only went to check the PM on almost the same location, and surprise surprise the original copper locating plug is still there to be seen. As well as the GIP set up marker.
There is even some remain of the yellow paint around the locating plug.
