Description

This brass trig identification disc is located between two short pipes imbedded in  granite  and is in an area where there is evidence of significant quantities of granite having been mined over time.

Final approach will be on foot up an easy slope lightly timbered with some dense bracken to be negotiated depending on direction taken.

Care should be excercised at GZ as there is a steep drop away on the eastern side.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I parked the car directlt below te trig and walked up the slippery hill on a wet, foggy morning. I ony had to go 30 of the 130m until I came to the track. After that, I went directly up through a section that looked easy. This brought me to an old quarry. Amazing spot. The trig is up the top...go to the right. Love this location.

Third trig find but first logged this morning. Set out early to clear forested areas as there is a total fire ban and high winds warning today. Drove as far as I could but a rock lefge was too much for the geomobile

Out and about caching and headed to Mt Alexander to locate a couple of trigs and this was the second one today. A pity the pin has been souvenired. We parked 200 m north of the trig and walked up the 4 x 4 track. Not steep at all. TFTT

another fantastic location I would not have found if not for caching, thanks for the trig

Found this one at 14:50 while on our bushwalk around the area. The blue poles are still in place (Mr Pollock Wink) but alas, someone has removed the actual survey marker Shocked. At least that didn't detract from the views out to the east. Very Happy

Thanks Romax.

On a visit to Mount Alexander this afternoon, I couldn't resist the short stroll up to find this trig point Very Happy
There are a lot of very squarish blocks of granite littering the slopes.
Signs of a quarry at some time in the past Smile
No actual structure at GZ, but the survey marker is there.
Also some nice views out over the flatlands to the southeast.

A short sharp climb on the way up and as is always the way - found the easier way on the return journey. I think we have been here before doing one of Last Survivor's multis on the top of the hill.

I found this TrigPoint with caughtatwork today. Not so easy on my legs but we made it. There were millions of butterflys everywhere we walked. They were just flying around and around. This was a beautiful place to visit today. Thank you.

This TrigPoint was a little tougher than the one up the hill. GabGab and I took the easy way up to the cache, but it was still a little bit of a struggle for 12 year old legs. Nevertheless we took it slow and easy and soon we were at the top of the granite blocks admiring the marker in place between the blue posts. We took a slightly easier way down as we could see some narrow tracks that we missed on the way up.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks Romax for taking the time to list this TrigPoint at Geocaching Australia. I wonder why so close to the other one. Maybe sighted from a different angle.

Found this trig back in April (just catching up now!). Interesting quarry on the eastern side. Brass plaque stamped with the name Alexander South.

Up here the other day... And happened accross this too.

Found by Roma, Kelsey and Max.
Having visited this GZ on another geo mission back in 2006 it was very pleasing to see no vandalism had taken place here in the intervening years.
Unfortunately that was to prove not to be the case later in the day when we visited another trig not that far from here where the brass ware had been purloined since our last visit!
