Description

Unfortunately all that remains to identify this trig is a single short pipe,  typically painted blue, marking where the usual brass indentification disc should be located. As of June 2015 the brass identification plaque is back in place. Whether the plaque has been replaced or merely uncovered can't be determiend, but you are now looking for a genuine trigonometrical marker at ground zero.

Approach is up a steepish track suitable for 4wd or in dry conditions by high ground clearance 2wd vehicles, and of course by foot as we have done previously!

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Woof! That's a bit of a tough walk up from the parking pace at the bottom. With only a 2WD there was no way we could make this a drive by, but I also wasn't going to let this one get away. So a but of a huff and puff up along the track and we were soon at GZ where the plate was in place and very identifiable. From preior logs I wasn't expecting to find the plaque, but there it is, in all it's brassy glory. No idea if it was replaced or merely uncovered.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks to GCA for the listing and to Romax for listing it.

This was the first of two trig points for us while in the area for bushwalking today. A nice easy one at 16:30 and it was a bit of fun making this a drive-by Smile, although the others in the GeoPaj didn't think so Anxious. It's a pity that the plaque has gone but it's still well worth the journey up here Very Happy.

Thanks Romax.

7.23 Hmm.. not sure about not finding the disc. Its there or its been replaced. Or am I at the wrong spot. Pic attached. Nice view. Prospectors about too. Maybe they unearthed it.

We had visited the monk while placing the near caches with the intention of publishing it also. Unfortunately we couldn't find the disk and were not sure what to do about it. Lucky for us Romax beat us to it.

Found by Roma, Kelsey and Max.
We made this an easy drive by today as on a previous visit we walked from the track intersection up the final approach.
Although the view today was still as breathtaking as we found before, it was disappointing to find some vandalism has occurred here since our last visit, with the removal of the brass Geodetic Survey Victoria Triangulation Station Disc. However the post is still here to identify the spot.
