Description

The Mt Alexander Cairn is one of only three examples in Victoria of mortared stone geodetic triangulation stations, the others being Mt Macedon and Warby North.

The brass plaque is located on top of the cairn.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

Came up in the early morning fog. It was a slow and careful drive. That's a pretty cool trig!

Set out early this morning to grab this one and a couple more trigs as I want to get out of the forested areas. High winds and total fire ban days not good in the bush. Loved this one. TFTT Clapping

Another great place to visit. Clan PhoenixClapping

A quick but interesting find with the family as we were passing.
This was the last cache of the day for us as we were headed back to our campsite.

early visit to the area.

23-Aug-16
Today we visited Mt Alexander and were surprised to see a trig point marked by a cairn. We have added four photos of our visit: the cairn; Mr y'stassie on the ladder getting to the top; our GPS on top with the survey marker in the centre; the survey marker on top just visible under the water. Thanks for the cache in a great location.

After a massive day of caching, LouiseAnn and I were beginning to make our way home, but not before picking up some more needed caches for the GeosportZ 2016.

This one was pretty scary, when we turned off the main highway, all was going well, that was before the fog started rolling in. WOW, Shocked what a fog it was. Some of the worst I have ever seen and at times we had pretty much no vision, with only the reflectors on the side of the road showing the way. An amazing but slightly scary experience.

wow!! Wow!!!! WOW - FOG!!! I thought I had driven in fog before, but according to our trip up to this trig, I hadn't! It was insane!! The road would just disappear in front of us, then reappear a few seconds later. We were driving rally slow, and it was lucky it was the middle of the night and no one was likely to be coming the other way on the skinny little road. We were both super pleased to come down out of the clouds as we descended the hill and continue out journey home. Thanks for the Trig!

Today's bushwalk up here circumnavigated this trig point without actually going to it. A pity really as it was well worth seeing. After the walk though, I drove back up here for the shot at 15:20 before heading off to a well earned barbie. Very Happy

Thanks Delta-squad.

12-May-13
Stopped off for a look and a couple of pictures of this unusual trig while in the area

Everything around here seems to have been overbuilt in the local stone Shocked
This trig point is a finely crafted granite monolith Very Happy
So I had no problems finding it this morning.
And as always with a 'trig point' I've given it a "Top Cache" rating Wink

A group of muggle joined me for a bike ride to the Redesdale Pub for lunch. On the return north we ventured up Mt Alexander. While they stretched their legs Mr The Morris and I found a couple of GC caches and also this GCA Trig Point.

A quick drive by to this TrigPoint after finding our Secret Santa gift not that far away.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks Delta-squad for locating and listing this TrigPoint at Geocaching Australia. I really enjoyed the quality of the workmanship at GZ.

Found by Roma and Max.
We intended to list this one ourselves but wanted to confirm the brass disc was actually in place before we submitted it, and not being as agile as we once were, we intended to return with mechanical assistance!

10-Apr-11
A great example of an 'old school' trig. If your agile enough or have a ladder with you, the plaque is located on top of the cairn.
