CORS station, collecting geodetic data from GNSS (Continually Operating Reference Stations).

CORSnet-NSW is a precise positioning service that gives users access to fast and accurate positioning and guidance solutions across NSW. In recent years, precise positioning and guidance systems have emerged as useful tools across a variety of applications such as:

• Surveying

• Agriculture

• Construction

• Emergency services

• Mining

• Scientific research

• Asset management

CORSnet-NSW uses the latest Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology to provide an accurate spatial reference network for NSW and support the growing number of precise positioning and guidance applications throughout the State.

How does it work?

The service is delivered by a network of permanent GNSS receivers – known as Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) – that are strategically located across NSW. The CORSnet-NSW network continuously observes and corrects satellite navigation signals in order to achieve international standard, high accuracy positioning data for NSW. The data is streamed to users via a wireless internet connection

#GA5262 - 08:40; Last day in Newcastle, so headed out to knock a few more of the caches around the CBD. Finished off an Adventure Lab, then headed here to grab a snap for this cache. Read a couple of earlier logs, so widened the search area and it was pretty obvious once I headed along Hall Street to the rear entrance! TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Was staying in nearby apartments on a work trip and have been in the area many times. Finally today was the opportunity to wander over and spot the CORS while aona shopping trip to Aldi supermarket across the street. Had to circle around to stay away from an ambling dog walker and then swooped in to take the shot.
Thank you for another opportunity to visit one of these hidden gems of our GPS coverage.
Cheers

Parked on the wrong side of the building for this one. With no CORS in sight we went for a wander and eventually spotted it on the other side of the building.
Second finder in a row of this one from Tassie.
Thanks.

This morning we located the Newcastle CORS on the NSW Government building in Bull St. The CORS antenna was only visible from the front of the building but it didn't contrast well against the sky. So two photos have been added to the Gallery: the first shows Mrs y'stassie in front of the building with the CORS antenna at the top of the building just to the right of the circular part of the building; the second photo is a closer view of the CORS antenna. Thanks Geocaching Australia for the cache.

As I was down in Newcastle (again) to drop off a bed for the older son I now on my way to "The Catch Up" Event, and wanted some supplies so stopped by a certain Waymark, and noticed that the GPSr showed a waypoint directly opposite. Aaah. Took a walk around the block to find the best place a photo. Thanks.

Having looked for a Trig point before and recorded a DNF, now that I had to look for a CORS made the find possible.

Out on a Trig raid in Newcastle this is Trig number #7 for the day.
This CORS Trig Station is mounted over the Main entrance of the New South Wales State Office building and easy to spot from the street just as well this is Australia, in some countries you can be jailed for taking photos of government buildings!
