Description

An old, disused trig on a spectacular peak in Namadgi

When we were studying the maps for our overnight trip to the Cotter River, JmanJezza and I noticed that Coronet Peak, which we were planning on visiting, had a symbol on the map (Rendezvous Creek 8626-1S) indicating a survey mark. A quick study of GCA didn't reveal a trig listing so I planned to check it out when we got there.

Not only did I find a cairn of rocks with a concrete pole holder in the middle, but I found the remnants of the trig top on the way down. So I call it a trig and will claim the find.

Ribbit A stunning peak, and very happy to say I finally made it up here to the trig! A great walk, not too tough in the end, just the distance that kills but the scrub was reasonable. Great views all around. TFTT Ribbit

Yep, That is the remains of a trig, so it definitely qualifies.

Left the car park at 6am, rode to the AAWT, dumped bike, then proceeded to go on a long walk. Got to the track junction below Coronet Peak, and headed up the valley towards little Creamy Flats on the old 4WD trail. After a short while I lost it as it was just too overgrown, but still easy walking. At the 3hr mark, I turned to the right and headed up the final 1.08km to the summit of Coronet Peak. That mere 1km took exactly one hour. I scaled the peak up a very easy climb up the SE face, and BEHOLD, THE VIEW - FANTASTIC.

Wandered over to the pile of rocks up the top, yep, there is concrete & a steel post in there - clearly the remains of a Trig. I spent about 15 mins up there, a Beautiful day, 15-18 degrees, not even a whisper of a breeze, sunny - MAGIC! Took some pics, then chose a different way down - mistake! Then finally at 7 hrs 45 mins from when I left the car I was back at the car, slightly more weary than when I left.
A great Day, lots of lizards of all types & sizes seen, no snakes, Fantastic views, 15-18ยบ, no breeze, and VIEWS!

I think I am now the only fool, er, Geocacher, to have gone up there TWICE!

PS - I don't know why the GPS pic above shows 2 Nov 11, it is currently showing 3 Nov 11, which is when I found it this morning, ie, 3rd November.!!

An amazing location
Yes I came up a thin crack and slab on the west side of the cap - that route may not look probable to others
