Description

This trig is located in Bangalow, NSW - on top of the water tower. There's a GC Cache directly underneath - so double the incentive to stop!

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website. If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

We drove from Byron to Lismore and back today, ending up with 10 finds (and a bonus 20 GC finds too).
A quick one here, with a bonus cache too....

After a drive through the main street of Bangalow we came in search of the trig. It was easy to spot that's for sure!
The lady sitting there must have wondered what I was doing

It was a perfect afternoon to find the Bangalow trig atop the water tower. The tower is wrapped in a rainforest camouflage which blends well with the surroundings. Unfortunately the trig has been graffitied so I take a photo from a better angle. The grass has been newly mown which provides fresh pickings for a family of magpies on an afternoon stroll. I can hear lots of laughter from nearby houses. TFTT GCA.

4th day of my 6 day trig trip to the border and back. This is my idea of fun! Not too happy about the graffiti on this one. Very silly indeed.

passing through today I saw this trig on the GACacher app, went to it, and realised I'd been here. maybe I was just here for the gc cache and forgot about GCA that day. so I snapped a photo with Captain Jack.

Note: Photo didn't load with log through app. Photo lost.

We came here years ago to find the GC cache.. can't have been logging trigs at that time as we hadn't logged a find. Today we were looking for caches to use for the Journey or Destination game and came to take a photo. A quite distinctive tank with its rap-around mural.

#GA2736 - 11:15; Day five of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune. After a night in Ballina, the plan for today was to cache northward through Ballina to Byron Bay and then on to Kingscliff before turning south for home through Bangalow, Evans Head, New Italy, Yamba, Maclean and on to Kempsey for another overnight stay. After an early start, we hadn't gone far up the road when we saw evidence of a heavy shower not too long before we got there, so we seem to have dodged a bullet and got packed up with fairly dry gear. Following a successful run through to Cape Byron, we continued our journey along some interesting and at times rather rough roads before getting to the highway and on to Brunswick Heads then Kingscliff. Having reached our northern most point, we started the trek south. After missing the turn off due to older maps and newer roads, we finally got to Bangalow and after grabbing the nearby ICEM cache headed up the hill to grab a snap of this trig. No problems spotting this one and the required photo was soon in the bag.

Thanks for yet another trig...

I dropped by the water tank to find a new geocache hidden this week. As I arrived at GZ, I spotted the trig. A lot of the trigs around this area have some spectacular views – this one is no exception. Shame about the graffiti on it though.
