While Mum went shopping the boys and I cruised out from Leura, through Katoomba, Medlow Bath and Blackheath, nabbing caches as we went. A quick stop here....
Heading home from Lithgow we thought we would do this trig. Living in the Blue Mountains for the past 37 years we have seen lots of changes to the Hydro Majestic. For a while we thought it would never be refurbished and would end up falling apart. Today we looked at some of the past photos before we took the photo and we were unsure of which point we were supposed to be looking at. So we took a full photo till we could get home and do more research. The original logs have the building on the left, so our photos are focusing on that. The pole on top was difficult to photograph today with it being overcast when we went past, but if you look close you can see it. TFTT
Photographed this from Hargreaves Lookout and much closer from the highway. Looks like and older-style lightning rod.
#GA2385 - 17:45; Day three of the summer sojourn in the Blue Mountains with the geohoney and today we decided to do Scenic World and see a bit more of the local environs. The day started with breakfast in Leura then off to Scenic World and a trip down the Scenic Railway and the walk through the rainforest. The highlight of the day was seeing not one, but two lyrebirds in their native habitat. Managed some great (and some not so great) snaps of these beautiful birds in the wild Travelled back up in the cable car and after a bite to eat headed across on the Scenic Skyway and back again after a short walk on what had become quite a hot day. After enjoying the sights, we were took the long way home and after dropping the geohoney at the resort, I headed off for a spot of late afternoon caching. I collected a few trads, but the main focus of this mission was trigs, including this one. We had driven past this trig several times in the last couple of days, but stopped to grab a shot today. Heading back to Katoomba, stopped by to grab this passive trig. A grand old building, good to see its getting used again.
An early trip up the mountains to grab this trig before heading back to Katoomba
having been dared to extend my centroids my search began
the trig is still there after the renos and this place is beautiful but looking back at the gallery i think i prefer the coloring of the Hydro before.
walked down to the boiler, the views were simply stunning

I think I had tried to photograph this passive trig back in 2013, but I think the renovations were going on, and it wasn't clear what the Passive Point was. Now, from looking at SIX Maps NSW it is much clearer, that the Passive Point is the square pyramidal roofed section, with a 'trident' lightning conductor, atop a curving slate roof.

found on the way to Jenolan Caves for a bushwalk with old & new friends, stopped here on the way past. All the work here has changed how I remember the area

Great to see the hole place is renovated! Beautiful hotel now, with the trig still intact.

Stayed here prior to the last renovation when they opened up the old east wing. This seems to have been closed for a very long time. A nice old place and a trig to boot.

Passed this many a time in the past weeks, usually in a string of traffic. Pulled over and an almost clear sighting.

Our second trig for the day on our trip to Blackheath.
I knew there was a trig listed for this site, but wasn't sure on earlier trips past here which part of the buiding we needed to spot. Today I made sure to read the notes & knew what to look for.
The sign out the front says the Hydro Majestic is due to reopen in 2012, but it doesn't look like any work has started, so they might be just a little optimistic with that due date .

We were on our way upto Blackheath to do a few caches, but Toriaz couldn't resist stopping for this one, now that she's found out which part of the building counted as the trig. Thanks
On the way to Sydney for family and work commitments and just enough spare time to grab a trig or 2 on the way.

This trip was planned from when the trail was published, but it took till now to get a common free weekend. Most of the caches were simple and well placed. A few were more difficult. The places visited were interesting and all in all Mtrax, Tankengine and I had a great time, even if a bit wet and foggy at times.
Thanks

I really hope they get around themselves and do up this iconic place. We used to stop here all the time for a drink and scones when coming over the mountains. Could snap this from the highway. A really good static trig.

A very easy trig to find as this has been a landmark for so many years. Although I hadn't realised there was a trig incorporated into it!
With my new shorter afternoon Friday caching time, I just gad time for a quick upper mountains run.
First of three quick photos.
First of three quick photos.
Stopped alongside the Great Western Highway while on the way north to Blackheath and the Megalong Valley.
Little spire is very easy to spot.
No sign, though, of the promised re-construction work on the Hydro Majestic itself -- though due for completion in 2012.
Thanks again to rogerw3 for published this one.

Found this one this morning on my way for a walk to Blackheath, the lightning rod is still there but the roof looks like it could used some renovation, so this trig may not last much longer.

I'll try to stop by today on my way to Blackheath with Mrs. pjmpjm.
I know this building well and the spire should be easily visible from the Great Western Highway.
Many thanks to rogerw3 for discovering and publishing yet another local NSW Department of Lands trig.
