After reading Sol de Lune's log, I knew there was a bit of a climb up to the TP, and he wasn't kidding. Lots of vines to hold onto. I walked onward to get the GC cache (which I didn't find) and passed some young guys at there "spot" with views well worth experiencing. I excused myself for intruding, and they were happy to have me pass by. Made me think that, although these boys are now adults, in years to come they will look back on this place as something very special.

Grabbed with LuckyL10n while in The Gong for the day...

A bit if a slog for the last 40 odd metres, but we'd come this far and wasn't going to let a small climb stop us. Interesting that the name is spelt different on the plate. But Nebo or Nibo...it's still there.

#GA648 - 13:35; Sol de lune and I had discussed a wild trig hunt in the Illawarra quite a while ago and today was the day we tried to bring home the bacon. We had collected a few on the way down the mountain and in to Kiama, before heading north for a DNF in Shellharbour then on to the main section of the Tour de Illawarra. Parked the geomobile at the gate, then headed up the road for what looked like a leisurely stroll. That was not to be as the final ascent required a short sharp climb up a somewhat slippery hill to the summit and the trig. We made it and after noticing the variation in the spelling of the trig name on the plaque while we took our snaps, like Jack and Jill, back down the hill we went. This one didn't take too long to find and I was surprised as I was expecting thick Lantana as described in the previous posts however the area has been cleared quite a bit. The Trig is in good condition, no mast but the nameplate is still there. Some good views in this area from the Trig, car park and O'Briens road past the gate.

Was here this morning and indeed not easy to get to for the last 50 meters and lots of needles to negotiate. Once a bit further from the trig, the views are quit spectacular!

I was doing the 'Little Nebo' Trig and since this one is only 700 metres away as the Kookaburra flies, I thought "How hard can it be".
Famous last word, less than 1km there used to be a track here and in some parts there still is but most of it is covered in huge bushes of lantana, mostly about 20 metres wide and 3-4 metres in height. If you have tried to bull your way through this lot before you will know how nearly impossible this is.
However I was so close the first real obstacle is only 60 metres away from the Trig so i pushed my way through losing a fair bit of skin and blood along the way then the track reappears for a short while and then masses of lantana and no obvious way through, I eventually noticed a small tunnel going under the biggest bush, no more than a foot high made by the local Wallabies, so being stupid I went in and crawled trying to avoid all the Wallaby crap, and trying to avoid being snagged by the lantana, made it to the other side a few meters later I realise I have lost the GPSr, I know where of course under the lantana tunnel, so back I go and sure enough there it is right at the start, got it then back again into the tunnel .
At last the GPSr says only 10 metres and no sign of the trig, then a flash of white concrete in more lantana and there it is.
This was a hard find, it was a steep climb all the way to the Trig and the hostile vegetation did not want me to get there.
The return trip was a bit easier as the track had been well and truly made, but if you want to get this Trig hurry up the lantana will grow back very quickly.

This is in good condition, but the mast and vanes have long gone, they could still be somewhere under the lantana! The name plaque shows the old spelling of the name "Nibo" this has since been changed by the Lands Department to "Nebo".
