Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ and to photograph it.

The official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Sancrox.

Serial number: TS5661.

Last inspected: January 13, 1979.

Elevation: 104 meters.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself. This one is a Concrete pedestal with mast and vanes.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

Just happened to be passing by.... sort of.... Smile after being an idiot elsewhere in this forest, () I finally made it up to the GC 3x3 cache here and while I was signing that, the CO told me about this trig point. I took a photo and noted the coordinates as best as I could on my phone so I hope they are correct. Some grubs had dumped a lot of rubbish here so the CO got a big bag and took as much as he could away. I don't understand why people do that, it would probably be less effort and petrol to take it to a tip and only a few dollars to dump if they didn't have a voucher. It was a nice area once up there and would have been even nicer sans rubbish! TFTC Smile
Agree that track may be washed out, the one on the left VERY much so! High wide clearance vehicle required if taking that way. Right hand track okay (with care) as @ early February 2018, weather events can change that though so assess when visiting. Smile

parked by the water tank and walked up the trail to the trig point as the last 200m of track was washed out. parked by the water tanks. I would recommend taking the track to the right rather than the track to the left when you get off the oxley highway.

My sons and I drove up here (the non-challenging AWD way!) to do Grahame's challenge caches. We were pleased to get a bonus trig while we were here.....

12-Feb-17
It was 'stinking hot', but at least it had 'cooled down' to 40°C. I had come on back to check on the 'rigging' and hide of the nearby 3 x 3 Challenge geocache. This was another time that I came in by the first turn to the left, being the 4 x 4 challenging route for a 2wd.
Took a couple more photos of the trig, so I can post a Waymark for it as well.

1730 An interesting trip up in the Mazda Metro. Would suggest a ute at least, if not a 4wd. Quite a few washouts in the track.
I'd say terrain: 2
Being after dark a few of the photos didn't turn out.
