Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ and take a photograph of it.

Official name of trig: Byron View
Official Code: TS6393

This trig is clearly visible when you do Views and Views geocache.  GC36EK0

The trig marker is through a gate which is probably on private land but it is not locked and you will more than likely need to go through to turn the car around. The access to the cache and trig is on a gazzetted road.

You will certainly get some wonderful views from here on a clear day. I found it during a thundery stormy afternoon so the views were limited.
Feel free to add more information to this cache.

Co-ords are from google maps as I forgot to take a note of them when I was there.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being

terminated.

I saw the private property sign but I had a great story to tell if I was confronted haha. It’s a fine Trig this one. Shame about the dodgy location. Quick photos taken then onto the next one. Thanks for the cache.

We noted the private property signs at the bottom, but this does look like a gazetted road, and Sixmaps seems to show no property boundaries being crossed, so we drove up and logged this one..... great views again!

I took a trip to visit this trig near Byron along St Helena Road. The road was extremely potholed and narrow. I drove slowly and steered to the left, middle and right as necessary to avoid the holes.

I read the logs about private property signs on the road leading to the trig. I felt conflicted about going through the gate to Byron View with obvious signs. However, the cache description mentions both private land and gazetted road. The want to make the find and take a photo won out.

The trig is located in the open and is easy to take a photo. I didn't stay long due to the no trespassing signs. There was also security camera signage on a nearby gate leading to a residence.

No access up to the trip, if you respect the signs on the entrances. I touch forther north, you can get a good shot.

I didn't even need to leave the car for this one!

looks like private property approaching this but it's not until after the trig (and cache).

Note: Photo didn't load with log through app. Photo lost.

This is the closest trig to home that I had yet to find. Funny how a geocaching game makes you try that little bit harder to mark these unfound caches/trigs off your list! I was close by for work, so deviated over St Helena to grab this one. The oleanders were out and smelt amazing as I drove up to the towers. As I got closer, my mobile reception died all together. You think it would be nice and strong so close to the transceivers.

The trig was found quickly, and the customary photographs were taken. Great spot - I'm jealous of those in the house up there!

#GA2713 - 08:30; Day five of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune. After a night in Ballina, the plan for today was to cache northward through Ballina to Byron Bay and then on to Kingscliff before turning south for home through Bangalow, Evans Head, New Italy, Yamba, Maclean and on to Kempsey for another overnight stay. After an early start, we hadn't gone far up the road when we saw evidence of a heavy shower not too long before we got there, so we seem to have dodged a bullet and got packed up with fairly dry gear. Following a successful run through to Cape Byron, we continued our journey, this time along a rather bumpy but quite busy road to reach this trig with views! Day 5 of the trip up the NSW coast with LuckyL10n after the Morisset event. Today was from Ballina to Kingscliff and back to Kempsey. A few more caches grabbed, with most being trigs...

No problems spotting this one and the required photo was soon in the bag.

Thanks for yet another trig...

About midday we visited the Byron View Trig Point. There are certainly great views from this vantage point. Two photos have been added to the Gallery: the identification plate and Mrs y'stassie at the Trig Point marker.

Enjoyed our morning country drive - very green, very scenic! Great view from this trig site.
No gate was closed when we visited - drove up to GZ.
Thanks. Very Happy

Whilst on a 21hour drive from the Gold Coast to Canberra, I was collecting some Earthcaches and came across a few lighthouses and trig points so took the required snaps for logging on GCA. Clan CerberusVery HappyClan Cerberus

While having a few extra days off, after the June long weekend, I headed further north, and grabbed a few Waymark, and trigs. Just a short drive off St Helena Road, and I was below the transmission towers, with a GREAT trig point right there. With a name plate, and the vanes intact it was a beauty. Took some photos, and then headed on.

Drove right up to this one. A bit of rain on the way and the sign said I was on private property so I didnt hang around.

Found while looking for another cache nearby and would never have guessed this was a public road. Amazing views.

We were out this way doing a cache run when i remembered this trig was nearby, so I had to divert slightly to grab this one. Very overcast today so much of the views were available.

Found this cache while visiting a nearby GC cache. My photos are only from the phone and it was a horrible day for views.

Found this trig whilst visiting other infrastructure on the site. Can confirm the trig is on private property. Awesome views! I have been trig hunting way before geocaching, so am posting a photo from a few years back. Cool (Logged June 2012)
