Description

Trig point at the Kia Ora lookout near Gloucester, NSW

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Staying in Gloucester over the long weekend to do some Kayaking. Managed to get a quick evening drive in to get up and grab this trig. Great view and an awesome end to a great day

Day 19 of the road trip to Townsville with LuckyL10n for the mega and today was day 6 of the drive back to Canberra.

After a night in Kyogle it was time to pick to head a little closer to home....and tonight it was Dungog before the final push home in the morning.

Great views from this trig, which is right on the side of the road at the lookout. Photos snapped and we were on our way again.

#5644 - 16:55; Day nineteen, the penultimate day, of the Townsville Mega adventure with Sol de lune. Spent last night in Kyogle and heading south today counting counties as we headed for Dungog for our last night on the road before getting home. We had caching stops in Lismore, Ballina, Coffs Harbour, Bellingen, Nambucca and Gloucester along the way. This was our last stop and a pretty quick one at that once we reached the summit. Found on a drive around the area while caravanning to Queensland for our annual pilgrimage to avoid the southern winter. Slightly late this year as we had to hang around for a Family Reunion in Warragamba last Sunday.

I passed by only two weeks ago on my way home solo from QLD.
I tryed to get the nearby cache, but it had unfortunately been muggled.
I took a photo specifically for this purpose, and here it is.

I used to live in Gloucester, and when the days got stormy, i would ride my Honda CB 250 up here and climb on the water tank from the seat of my bike and watch the storm rumble up from newcastle.
The lightning bounces inside the valley. and as it got really close, you had to time it so you could get home without getting soaked to the bone.

i *reccomended* the view.

I was certain there would be a trig up here even though no trig was in the GCA database. Sure enough as you get to the end of the road there's a trig plain as day. Vanes are intact but the plaque is missing.
The nearby GC cache was muggled so this was a good find to make up for it. Great views from here with a telecomms tower nearby.
