Found this one around a year ago, as I am going back next week i logged in to see what else was around and only now realised i had not completed the logs from the past (seems to be a regular occurrence unfortunately). We use this area to train navigation and bushwalking for our Outdoor Leadership students and it is always a good place to come back too. a challenging but beautiful walk out here, it has been good to see the bush slowly regenerating after the destructive fires of 2019 / 2020 but it has made the undergrowth very thick and challenging to push through in some places. We also have a Kanangra to Katoomba challenge planned for a couple of weeks too so hopefully that will be possible.
The trig is a large piled rock cairn that is still in pretty good condition and a rusty set of vanes leaning up against it

We had a few days camping at Boyd River Campground. MrT had loaded a couple of caches and this trig in to his GPS before we left home. We parked at the gate and MrT headed in for the walk to GZ while I stayed around the car and birdwatched. After the bushfires 2 years ago there was a lot of damage to the bush. The ground plants etc have come back after the rain and there is a lot of new growth on the burnt trees, however there are a lot of trees that didn't survive.

No problem locating the trig.

ANZAC day – left home about the same time I would go to work. So, as I was traveling west I could see many people at the dawn services along the way. I must say it look like parking was a premium so it looks to have been a good turnout. Did the caching run today to claim Celebration Day : ANZAC Day - Find a geocache on ANZAC Day, so I did & this is one of them.
Did the walk out and back on a smoky bush fire day. The track hasn’t been used in quite some time. I find this disappointing as it looks like lock it up and through away the key. I fell it would be wise to maintain these tracks for fire reasons. Now the firies will need many chain saws and moving many fallen frees from track. In the first 1 and half kilometres there are many trees to do. The last kilometre was nice and free and open. Once at trig it hasn’t altered since last visits. Just behind trig there are many grass bushes with tall stems, supplied photo – thanks again for a nice walk out here on this special day

Trig gained on the way out to Mt Paralyser. Misty, but always worth the walk. Smile

An easy walk in along the King Pin firetrail. I saw a couple of kangaroos and heard a kookaburra. Very nice.

Second trig of the day with pjmpjm.

An easy find, a nicely formed fire trail will take you right to the trig, although you will have to walk the 2.5km as the trail is gated, but it is an easy walk and there is plenty of wildlife along the way.

The cairn is still in reasonable condition with the 4 vanes on the ground, one of the vane has been carefully placed on top of the cairn. We could not find any trace of the mast very likely completely burnt.

Always a pleasure to find the old vanes near the cairn, it seems to make the find even better.

Another FTF with rogerw3!

We parked at the locked gate, alongside Kanangra Road, and walked about 2.5 kms to GZ along a reasonably good fire trail.

As we approached the high point, we were delighted to discover that the old stone cairn was still nearly intact and that all four quarter vanes were still on site.

Took lots of photos and will upload them soon.

rogerw3 will write more.

'Three Thumbs Up' for old vanes and surprise at the reasonably good condition of the TS.
