Logs
I set off along the Drip Rock Track at 8am and reached the end of the track 2 hours later. Then it was off track, following the ridges until I was above Clews Cave. There's not much reason to visit the cave except that Major Clews was responsible for placing Island trig.
It took me 45 minutes to get from Clews Cave up to the trig. A lovely climb with one or two "interesting" parts where some climbing is required. Lovely landforms and the views improve as the elevation increases.
I didn't expect to find anything at the trig site. But the first thing I noticed was a small man-made pile of rocks. Then I saw the surveyor's mark in the rock. I was very pleased to find a mark of the site as some of the other trig sites nearby (Parr South and Parr Spur) have nothing. The views from Island Trig, with the Colo passing below and looking up the Wollongambe, are fantastic.
I went back to the Drip Rock Track via a different ridge - it looked a bit shorter on the map. The climb up to the ridge was very difficult, with nasty vegetation and some tricky scrambles through some minor cliff lines. Then 2 hours back along the fire trail to the car.
A very long day but a good walk and a great trig.
Found at 12.56pm.
