Description

Moat TS4344 A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ, and photograph it.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information may result in your account being terminated.

A nice little walk up to the trig after a job in Mangrove Mountain this arvo, on what is a surprisingly open hilltop up here. Offers almost full 360 broken views with the highlight across to Yengo NP in the north-west. Trig in pretty good consish with the mast in place and affixed via the instrument base mount on a gal steel pipe all the way to the ground (ie no concrete pillar). I didn't notice a nameplate. I got here with my phone and needed my phone for the photo so I got a pic with me holding a pretend GPS Dancing. TFTC

Enjoyed the walk up to this one...and the sunrise views too.

Had this trig on our radar for a while as it is the closest to us left unfound. With the added impetus of a new cache up here we finally made the trek up the cache. A bit of a bush bash but nothing too strenuous. The trig is still in excellent condition and it is in a nice spot for a sit and ponder.

Visiting BFJs cache and checked this trig out on the way. Looks in good shape. Good views through branches all around. Thanks for the trig.

Out caching with Team737 and barefootjeff today and we stopped for this trig as well. Not bad views from the top and the trig is in good condition. Thanks for the trig

We were in the area for a nice walk in the national park for an old GC cache, so grabbed the chance to go for this one too, while we were in the walking frame of mind.... we parked at the minimum distance from GZ, Rss Rd, about 170m, expecting a nasty scrubby bash up the hill. It was a bit nasty for the first 50m, then it thinned out and got rockier. The trig is in great shape, in a nice spot too....

I was out caching today around Mangrove Mountain and Peats Ridge with Mighty Minions and Team737. A fun climb up the hill to the trig marker which is in good condition. Many thanks for the listing.

I parked as close to the trig as I could and took a straight line through the bush. It was only 150m. Nice little rock outcrop that the trig sits on.

Took my photos as the bellbirds tinkled and the noise from some p.a. system drifted up from somewhere nearby.

Found at 1:57 PM.

Getting a bit sick of driving around suburbia to go caching, I decided to return to how things used to be in the early days when I lived in Adelaide and would often do a big loop of up to 200km to get a few finds. Being only minuted from the start of the M1 makes the Central Coast a good target and I picked a loop from Mt White up to Peats Ridge and back onto the freeway. And it was a lot more enjoyable than stop start driving in town! A bit of a bush bash from the road to the north, but after the first section the bush opened up and it was fairly easy going. Turned the iPhone navigation off and just headed upwards and it was spotted from a short distance away. Another Trig that is no good for it's original purpose with the bush having grown around it, but it's in quite good condition.

1955 18/12/13. A couple of weeks ago I revisited this area, but being late at night decided to come on back to photograph this trig that I had previously visited and photographed back on Friday, 9/3/1984, @ 1805.
There is a road not too far to the north, but the bush is not easy to find a way through for the first 50 m or so, but then becomes a lot easier to find the steel post with circular vanes attached. No name plate attached.
Took a couple of photos and headed off to see if I could find a way to Freeway TP, but no success there; as you need to enter through the wildlife park when it is OPEN.
