Logs
You definitely need to be motivated to get this one, and i was since it's been on my 'to do' list about 10 years. 7.5hr of pushing through relentless dense undergrowth was a pretty big day out though, and the solo trip meant i was the one up-front grappling with shrubs all day!
The area around Shuttle and down by the creek at the bottom were actually the nicest bits. The ridges to get there not so nice! I took the southernmost one out from the firetrail, and the one next to it on the return trip, see photos.
It feels good to make this log though and usurp Tyreless after a long stint as last recorded visitor I did sign the logbook up top too, and last recorded visitor there was from early last year during Covid lockdown.

A perfect day for a challenging bushwalk. A bit overcast but not wet, a light breeze and mild temperature.
If you plan to get to this trig overland (as I did) you need to plan ahead and pick the right day. I have been planning this trip for 9 months.
I had a series of waypoints plotted in my GPRr. I did a reconnaissance walk first (9 months ago), checking out the fire trail and the best place to begin the bush bash. 8 months ago I walked further out along the ridge. 6 months ago I had a serious attempt to get to the trig but made a navigation error and ran out of time.
But today I got there! 12.6kms in a little under 7 hours. Pretty slow going but some of the bush bashing is pretty heavy duty and there's a few little rock climbs here and there. I was alone so I was moving carefully.
Parked at the locked gate at 6am then 20min of fire trail - first steep downhill then steep uphill. A wallaby bounded away and three lyrebirds strutted and squwarked like Japanese teenagers.
I later saw a goanna and two snakes - both browns I think but I'm not good at identifying snakes. I kept well clear of them.
The hardest part of the walk was the last 400m to the trig across the top of Mt Shuttle - lots of spiky bushes and lawyer vines.
The trig is half depiled. No sign of any mast or vanes. But there is a visitor book dating back to 1996. The trig gets a couple of visitors at least each year but I think most climb up from the holiday shacks below on the waterfront.
Kudos to Cookie for coming here 30 years ago. Found at 9:28 am.

Ah the joys of weekdays off. Had been out on Tuesday and found a few trigs out Berrilee area.
Wednesday, 7/8/1984, 1635. Stopped off at Mt Shuttle trig on the way home from getting to and finding Mt Blanche trig. GR266880 (Aus Geo66 of course), tho I had refined the GR to 26678807 for a 10m search area.
Photo taken, but series of trigs photos thrown out.
