Beautiful day for a walk. Blanche has been on my bucket list for a while and when my other plans for the day fell through, a walk to Blanche was a great alternative.

I took the same route to Blanche as SP and GGS. There was a lot of morning fog so I couldn't see the landscape - that's my excuse for making a couple of navigation errors. I had the GPSr to refer to so I was soon back on track.

Fishermans Ridge is a mixed bag, mostly push-through scrub. The ridge on Mt Blanche, on the other hand, is quite lovely open bush with views of Big Bay and Marramarra Creek.

The trig itself is a beauty. Very big cairn with proud, upright mast.

I took a different route back, skirting all the way around Big Bay then up the steep hill to the Big Bay track and back to the car via "Hidden Valley". Had a chat with one of the residents of Hidden Valley who proved to be very friendly.

All up it took about 6.5 hours for the round trip.

Found at 10:33 AM.

Shankspony and I headed out to Canoelands this morning hoping to reach Blanche Trig but not really knowing what to expect along the way (especially around Big Bay). As Shankspony said, we used a combination of mountain bikes, ridge walking, bush bashing and creek & bog crossing to reach Blanche and were rewarded with some stunning views. No sign of the vanes but the rather weathered post is still in place. Arrived back at the car a bit scratched and sweaty but very happy to have nabbed this trig.

Very happy to have nabbed Blanche today with GeoGenS. Took the bikes along Canoelands Ridge, then hit the bush. Went the shortest route across the ridges and around the edge of Big Bay. Wasn't sure initially how easy crossing the edges of Big Bay would be, so timed it with low tide. In the end this wasn't necessary as the crossing was full of ferns and didn't look as if it was affected by the tides at all, so was pretty easy to traverse in-amongst a few boggy bits. The ridgetop after Big Bay and across to Blanche was lovely, however some of the rest of the trip was tough in parts, but much easier when we were able to follow wombat tracks. It took us about 3hrs each way from the fire trail, including short stops. Blanche itself is a large well built cairn with a wooden post, but no vanes evident. All in all a very satisfying find!

Changed earlier Found It to a Note, as I definitely plan on getting back there 'some time'.

Wednesday, 8/8/1984, 1330. Had a couple of weekdays off work, and the previous day had been out the Berrilee and Calabash areas. This day had already found GR28118002, 210m, couldn't find Hecla at GR26847972, but had found Denny at GR26328462.
As mentioned in the previous note I had made my way down to the Hawkesbury River with a day pack and lilo, that I then inflated and paddled/swam over to the base of Mount Blanche on the lilo. There was some oyster leasers out in their punts attending their oyster beds, and they probably wondered 'what-on-earth' as I made my way over.
Left the lilo out of the water, and then hiked up to the top. Set up my Mamiya camera in tree branch, and got a photo of me hold holding the Cowan map in front of the trig station (that I'd laminated to help make it last a few bashes through the bush).
Back down to the lilo, across the river again, and grabbed Mt Shuttle trig on the way back to Wahroonga.
Go on guys, do it again!! It was fun.

Well, if only that photo album had not been tossed out when I lived at Mt Colah (~1995); and if I could find my log book of all the trigs found in the 80's !!!
Without the logbook I'm not too sure of the order of the day, but I do remember paddling with a day pack over 'Marramarra Creek'/Hawkesbury River from the south (on a lilo) being watched by some oyster leasers. No doubt wondering "WTF" !!
Then scrambling up to Blanche, taking a timed photo (yes 35mm) with my 25,000 topo map on display, then reversing the trip back to the car.
When I find the pad (and/or the negatives) I may log this as a historical find ! Dancing
