I'd thought about doing the walk up The Rampart from home as permitted exercise during the 2021 COVID lockdown but never got around to it, but being at a loose end this afternoon, I went for a drive up instead and took the required photos. My guess is the reservoir was made like this to provide sufficient water pressure for the surrounding houses. Many thanks for the listing.

Drove up the nice steep road to park at the bottom of this interestingly shaped reservoir. We used to live in a place at Horsnby that had all the same street names as here, so that was fun!

The reservoir itself can be easily seen from quite a way away in this area and has always caught our eye as we drove through the peninsula. Thanks for giving us a reason to head up for a closer look!

The road up to this point is steep and usually quite busy, there are also excellent walks out past the reservoir on the western rock shelves. I have included a photo of the vanes on top and a more distant photo of the reservoir.

We were in the area for some good Central Coast hiking caches with Banj5150, and grabbed trigs as we went. This is the weirdest water tower I've seen.... I wonder why it was made this way, surely it would have cost more? The vanes are clearly visible, but you need to get a good 50+ metre up the opposite street.

My mother lived in the house across the road from this for about 12 years. Of course, I was not into caching until much later and this wasn't a findable thing then anyway. Still, it was good to come back up the hill.

Wow! This is an unusual looking "Water Tower". Parked close by, and realised that I would have no chance of seeing if there was anything appropriate to photograph unless I moved away.
Even from the roadway the view is limited, and uncertain. I walked around to the back of it - past the Restricted Area sign, and was able to get a photo clearly showing the post that would have held the vanes, but now is holding a radio aerial.
Will keep it going. (Hope to get a Waymark for it tho)

Found at 4:07pm. I'd been here yesterday in the dark to this location. But there was no way I could produce evidence, I even tried a high powered light attached to the car. I just couldn't get a photograph. So today did a proper visit in daylight and I have to say now that I can see the structure properly and looking at it with more interest (as I live locally I've seen this years ago) it is an interesting structure. Certainly about the only one on the coast that looks like this. I've attached 3 photo's two show the trig in the center of the structure the last a closer view of the structure. I don't understand why no one has been out this one for so long either. Its pretty easy to get too.

FTF!! I have now been to Umina Beach a fair few times now but I was never sure that this trig would still be there. I drove around on Castle Cct to closely look to spot the trig sitting on top of the water 'bubble' tank. The trig still has the white mast with what appears to be greyish looking vanes. From a few spots from the road, a successful find can be made. I will post photos when I get back to my PC.
