Description

Corowa Silo TS 10595

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

This was our intended stopping point on the trip home today but with the car park right next to the trig (and a long way under it of course Wink), I couldn't pass the trig point by so I grabbed the shot at 10:45 and it was off for some goodies (not to mention the neighbouring GC cache WinkLaughing).

Thanks geocaching australia.

Out and about caching for the day. Lovin' life, coffees and caches, waymarks and photos, taking the roads less travelled.
Been here numerous times as I have family who live closeby. Decided to grab a pic today.
Does it get any better than travelling this great land of ours?

Thanks for the cache.

Travelling from Albury to Wangaratta today, not far by most people's standards but when you're looking for GCA caches it turned into a long day. This one was a quick find with the aid of good coordinates and the fact that trigs on water tanks can be seen from afar. TFTC

15-Nov-17
As we headed from Burramine back across the Murray river towards Corowa it began to rain heavily. We hoped that the rain would ease off so that we could get our photo of this trig point.

We could see the trig marker on top of the silo from some distance away. When we goy close to the silo we were dissapointed to find the chocolate and whisky establishment nearby was closed. Not only were we unable to taste their products we were unable to look for the Chocolate and Whiskey cache.

The trig disc stood out against the stormy sky.

We took the required photo and have added two to the gallery.

We were glad to be able to find and log this cache as it gives us a dragon zone find in the Corowa zone and brings us one step closer to achieving our Finding Geocaching Centroid Trophy.

13-Aug-17
I picked up my load of passengers after their tour of the chocolate factory then drove them to the nearby club for lunch. It wasn't until we were leaving the club that I remembered the trig point and had to backtrack and take a quick photo from the bus.

09-Aug-14
Tried to find the GC cache here today with no luck. However spotted the Trig marker on the Silo so not a total no find.

I was in town with my kids to pick up a quad bike we bought on ebay. Found the GC cache with help from the management and have now "returned" to claim the trig. Thanx goodness for my obsession to photography everything.
