Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station and photograph the GZ.

Official Code: TS10927
Official Name: Coffs Harbour UHF

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably.

Park HereAccess: While there is a dirt road from the Sealy Lookout Drive there is also a sign saying, "WALKING TRACK", "AUTHORISED VEHICLES ONLY". The sign on the road says: "Korora Scenic Lookout (which is just past the trig), A 30 min. return walk gives extensive coastline views north of Coffs Harbour."

We were in town today to take a trip to South Solitary Island, but popped up the lookout to find a moveable and log this TS. Great place up here, and a nice walk with some amazing views of the coast from nearby the trig. Nice to have this one checked off my list!

We found this trig while visiting family

We're in Coffs for a couple of days on our way to Brisbane and this morning, I headed up the hill and walked out to Korora Lookout. I spied a couple of communications towers along the way and thought there might be a GCA cache here ... and on opening the app, I saw there was. A bonus find to go with the GC ones at the lookout and the trailhead/carpark!

Nice walk into this on a good track, and a great lookout just past the tower. Our work actually runs a couple of services off this one, but seeing as I don't do field work much these days I had never been here before, and unfortunately didn't have the keys so had to walk. Thinking about it I could probably have got the keys to the track if I had asked in advance and taken the work Commodore to Ground Zero, but I don't mind a walk. All fun anyway.

While 'surfing' the SIX Maps NSW site I came across another trig that hadn't been published, and this one looked promising for access.
Most certainly DON'T try the shorter, most direct route, but rather head up Sealy Lookout Drive, and you will find a sign from the State Forests of NSW proclaiming "Korora Scenic Lookout", and that a 30 minute return walk will give you extensive coastline views North of Coffs Harbour. They are right, but the platform is just another 80 metres or so past the second and smaller tower on the ridge. *FTF*, nice.
Passed a walker who was heading up to the road, and later he was down the Drive still walking when I went to drive past him, but he said he was close to his van. Smile
