Description

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

Follow the Penguin Cradle Trail until around 300m or so to go...then uphiil to Trig.

So apparently it’s raining back home in Queensland.. oh well haha. A nice and dry area out here to Trig goodness and great views on a clear day. On the way to the summit a black currawong flew up to me and sat itself on one of the few trees I walked past. We curiously looked at each other and shared a moment together before it flew away to continue its day. It’s been nearly eight years since this cache has been logged. There are some hiking tracks near here but I may well be the only person this bird has seen up near GZ. Thanks for the cache Smile

A fire has been through here in the last year or so and most of the scrub is only now starting to come back. At the moment it is pretty easy walking as you don't have to push through scrub to get from the track up onto the ridge. Gaiters were handy for walking through all the burnt stubble which is at shin height. Nice views to Cradle and Barn Bluff when the cloud lifted.

When we left the coast there were clear blue skies and a warmish sun. As we got inland the clouds appeared, snow was seen on nearby hills and the weather looked rather threatening. However, suitably equipped, we decided to continue on as the trig point was only a short walk from the road. As suggested, we left the PCT at about 300m from the trig point and scrub-bashed our way to GZ. The first 100m were the most difficult, the vegetation becoming much lower after that. There were small remnants of a previous snow fall scattered through the scrub. Finding the trig point marker was straightforward - accurate coordinates and a rock cairn over the marker made the task easy. Two photos have been added to the Gallery: our GPS at the survey marker; and a view to the north-east over Lake Lea. As we started to head back, mist and light rain appeared from the west but luckily it went north west of us and we didn't experience any rain until back at the car. TFTC

Took a bit closer look to find the marker pin but it was their. Grabbed after getting the Rocky Mount cache close by. Good views from here and the trig on Beecroft really stands out.

Steady climb to the top, then no track to speak of to the trig. Great views of Cradle, Barnes Bluff and Mt Roland. TFTC

Not far from a cache I placed up here almost 5 yrs ago. The Trig marker is situated on a large flat rock slab covered with rocks. Enjoyed the views...Cheers. FTF.
