CORS station, collecting geodetic data from GNSS (Continually Operating Reference Stations).

CORSnet-NSW is a precise positioning service that gives users access to fast and accurate positioning and guidance solutions across NSW. In recent years, precise positioning and guidance systems have emerged as useful tools across a variety of applications such as:

• Surveying

• Agriculture

• Construction

• Emergency services

• Mining

• Scientific research

• Asset management

CORSnet-NSW uses the latest Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology to provide an accurate spatial reference network for NSW and support the growing number of precise positioning and guidance applications throughout the State.

How does it work?

The service is delivered by a network of permanent GNSS receivers – known as Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) – that are strategically located across NSW. The CORSnet-NSW network continuously observes and corrects satellite navigation signals in order to achieve international standard, high accuracy positioning data for NSW. The data is streamed to users via a wireless internet connection.

#GA2763 - 08:25; Day seven of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune and after a night in Sydney we were heading closer to home as we cached south through to Wollongong and Shellharbour before heading up Macquarie Pass to the highway home. Our third railway station visit for the morning and another CORS for me. Sdl had collected this one on an earlier visit, so I was solo for this one. Drive by, as it had to be. Not a vacant parking space to be seen. TFTC.

With only a few minutes left before the train was about to leave for the north (there's not many of them so you've gotta grab it when they're there), I was able to snap an image of the CORS from the bridge over the highway.

Probably the least exciting cache I've found..but hey!

01-Jul-17
Nice easy find!

Wow! Mitt sure what has happened here but there are 2 trains pin the side rails and a fire between them. And there are over 100 emergency services people here too. The things you see when you decide to leave your good camera behind!!!!

I did take the usual shot but as the app only lets you upload one you are getting the blurry shot of the incident with the CORS in the foreground.

Found by Pi.

Quick stop before heading off on the Uloola Falls - Karloo Pool loop walk in the RNP. Beautiful day, if not a bit warm, for a walk in the nasho.

TFTC.

Found while travelling back from Sydney on Saturday. As a surveyor I enjoy seeing these marks around the place, but my 14 y/o does not as I think I (re)explain what the CORS system is every time we find one.

It took me a while to figure out which building the thing would be attached to. At first I thought it was on top of the railway station awning as there was a wierd electonic-looking thingy there. But no, I did locate the real thing a few minutes later!

My first cache of the day on the long drive down to Merimbula. My second CORS type trig, this one you can get up close and personal with. Parked in the station which was empty on a Sunday and wandered down.

This one had been eluding me for quite some time, but after some new data became available I knew what to look for, the GPSr antenna and not the more usual type of Trig.
You might say new hi tech Trig as opposed to the old optical Trigs.
