Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station and photograph the GZ.

Official Code: TS10711
Official Name: Allandale

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. This trig page had once upon a time been for the Archived trig, called Bare - TS739D (ie as in DESTROYED, or, DISPMANTLED) at Belrose, in Sydney's north, with the previous coordinates of S33° 43.063' E151° 13.152'. (GCookie)

Access: PLEASE NOTE, access is NOT available from the north side, but rather you need to approach from the eastern end Old North Road, on the southern side of the railway line. At the end of the bitumen road are some large reflectors, and a dirt track that leads to the trig station.

Woohoo!
First find for the year, and its a trig....
Over the years this one has always been just that bit much of a diversion, but today, in the rain, we made the effort. And surprisingly its in pretty good condition....

Visited today whilst on the way to TCMF2020. This is my first ever day solely trig hunting (ie no picking up trigs whilst geocaching). TFTC! Trig in pretty good condish, still has the black discs on the pillar.

The car's GPS took me on the other side of the railway. I came to a locked gate, but there was a gap that I could get through. Took the shot from the other side.

Similar to the last finder, I took the photograph and left quickly, although it is only about 200 or so metres off the public road and along a good dirt track with no gate. There was a nearby children's party happening on the private property, and although I was spotted, no one appeared worried. TFTC.

Felt a bit uncomfortable driving towards this one as if we were on private property. So when we pulled up we grabbed the required photo as quickly as possible.
We were surprised at the location of this trig as there were certainly much higher spots not that far away.
Thanks.

While in the Hunter Valley to find a few Waymarks to keep the calendar I noticed that there was few trigs that hadn't been 'Published' on GCA yet. So I went and checked it out, and sure enough, after finding the correct way there, there is a nice concrete pedestal, with post and vanes, and even a name plate, on the southern side of the fenced off railway corridor.
After taking a few photos I then slept over at this spot.

With the 'renewal' of the previous Archived trig of Bare into the achievable trig of Allandale (at Allandale in the Hunter Valley), this can be Unarchived.

09-May-12
This Trig is no longer there.
