Description

A trig station about 900 m ENE of Captains Flat post office and 800 ms SE of Newman Trig Station. TS864

A trig station about 900 m ENE of Captains Flat post office and 800 ms SE of Newman Trig Station.   TS864

Found in the Geographical Names Register (GNR) of NSW. Searched the web on more info, found the following on http://www.captainsflat.org/roadguide.html

"Davis Creek on the west side of the town is named after the previous owners of the property, drains the hill which is topped by Bennison Trigonometrical Station.  Surveyor Wood established the station on 19 July 1887. Bennison may be named after F. Bennison who operated a butcher’s in the early 1880s in Captains Flat or W.J. Bennison of Jingera who had a forage contract in 1864; a large business in Braidwood and was a JP; or Mr Bennison whose store at Foxlow was robbed by three masked men in 1865."

So this trig has been around a while :) Head up the hill to the east of Captains Flat, follow any of the numerous tracks heading up to the top. Trig is typical rocky pile on top.

Having swapped my old "bush basher" for a different geo mobile I was able to drive to within 50m of this trig. It certainly needs a 4WD and I only had one heart stopping moment on the way up. I nearly freaked out on the way back out when I was trying to negotiate this spot and a couple of young fellows came roaring up the track towards me in a jeep? land rover? Who knows. As far as I could tell there was nowhere for them to go but they just swung up to the side and continued on their way .
At the trig I took some photographs and tried to find our property but there were too many trees spoiling the view.
Thanks for the trig Geocaching Australia.

Second hill climb for a trig today.

We parked at the end of Montomery St in Captains Flat and climbed the hill from there. On the way up we dropped off and hid a moveable cache. Some pretty wildflowers in bloom.

#GA387 - 09:55; I had initially declined the offer to head out today with Sol de lune to grab a few caches and trigs around Captains Flat, but a last minute change of plans saw me end up joining Sol for a morning run. This was our second climb of the morning and of course we took the harder way up and found an easier track down for the return journey which wasn't too far from our starting point! Another surprising joint *2TF*! We took the required snaps before heading back down the hill to tackle the next climb. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Last day of the dZoner triple points so LuckyL10n and I headed a little out east of home to try for a few more trigs.

This one was bit of a longer walk at 350 metres from the car, and another short sharp section towards the top. Of course we found an easier track to the car, but all was good and another trig claimed.

Drove to the end of Montomery St in Captains Flat and made my way up the hill. Lots of tracks to choose from, seems to be popular with the locals as saw a man walking some dogs on the way up. Found the trig okay. Just a pile of rocks, but wasn't expecting much from the 1880s Very Happy
