Description

A trig on a reservoir to the West of Inverell

A Trig station adjacent to Burgess Street Reservoir just west of the town of Inverell. TS7381

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Thanks for the cache Smile

We made a quick detour out of Inverell to grab this trig point after our exploration of the town. Good to see a nice prominent trig point of top of this tower. Sometimes they can get a bit lost amongst all the other stuff OJ too of the water reservoirs.

We were driving from Lightning Ridge to Armidale today, so didn't have a lot of time for caching, ended up with a dozen trigs and four caches, such a great way to break up (extend) a drive!
One of the first intact trigs this trip I think....

I happened to be travelling this way today. I don't remember ever having been to Inverell. I didn't have time to play tourist today though... just trig hunter. Haha. 3 quick pauses for trig photos (and a pit stop) as I drove through didn't take up too much time.

You know what, I was in such a hurry these trigs and noticing Big W was across the road from the public toilets i visit were all I really noticed about the place. So unexciting that I'm going to copy and paste this log. Anxious

#GA5171 - 17:20; Day ten of a road trip with Sol de lune for the CacheQLD - Dayboro Mega. After a big day of caching around Dayboro yesterday, wrapping up with the trivia event in the evening, we set off early this morning for home. The mission for the day was to cache our way south collecting GCA and GC caches along the way, as far west as Warialda before finishing the day at Glen Innes. Heading west along the Gwydir Highway, we reached Inverell and a few stops for me to snap the local trigs and CORS, Last stop as we headed for Warialda. QLD Mega trip 2015 with Sol de Lune. On this almost 400km road trip we drove from Canberra to Stanthorpe caching in all the towns along the way with mostly great success. Around the Mega there were heaps of caches to be done including a few power trails. Despite the weather we got all of the planned caches done.

After the Mega we took a different track and found a few more trigs. Thanks.
