Description

Eleebana TS10042

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Eleebana.

Serial number is: TS10042.

Last Inspected on: March 31, 1976.

Elevation is: 1.362 metres.

Established by the Public Works Department for the Lake Macquarie Hydro Survey as PWD392.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

it appears I've got a photo of a broken pipe, not what I believed was the trig. I'll return soon and get a pic of the actual trig

Found after a walk along the cliffs, along rocks and knee deep water, started at the end of Toonibal Ave. We found a standard lakeside trigpoint. Is the cylindrical object in the lake an old trig, or a piece of pipe?? What we found appears to have been in place for some years.... we looked for a spot to get out from the trig, but couldn't see an easement between properties, so backtracked along the rocks. Definitely keep for a low-tide outing....

Added photo of what appears to be the replacement trig which we thought was a new trig PW392, but as we dont have access to NSW trig database didn't know it had been replaced and they were one in the same. At least there is something to see but you may get wet getting there.

We made our way down to the waters edge. It was MrGT54 who stood in the water so we could get a better photo as the tide was coming in. The photo was some of the exposed remains of the trig foundations. TFTT

This trig appeared on our GPS as we were caching nearby and Mr T made the scramble to GZ . Not much left but a pic has been added to the gallery.

While out and about caching around the foreshore after attending the OzGeoMuster we managed to find the remnants of this trig. We had not realised the trig had been archived as it was in the GPSr. The required photo has been added to the gallery. It was quite a scramble down to the area and also back up. TFTT

The broken trig is currently still there, so if you climb down, or paddle around, you would be welcome to log it. But it is rather DESTROYED.

I found the destroyed concrete pillar of this trig at 1010, Saturday, 15 July, while on my way to a 'Mary Hyde' geocaching Event on Lake Macquarie. Like SpikeyMikey I had checked out the location from above a while ago. This morning there was a Police van parked near the Council's Reserve sign, so I must have looked a bit suspicious taking a small coil of red rope with me. Later I found that there was a young couple up at the lookout - so 'doubly suspicious'. As I had thought, the concrete pillar has broken off the concrete base, and is now head-down in Lake Macquarie, mostly covered with oysters.
Will leave a message with SIX Maps about the nature of the trig, so that hopefully some time in the future the code will be changed to TS10042D. Meantime, will disable it on this site.

Had a look from above, but couldn't see anything, then had a go at getting down.
But without some serious bush-bashing or crossing private property ( I always thought that there had to be public right-of-way between then the high-water mark and the water??? ), I can't see a way of getting there.
Maybe there is a track? Or use a boat?

Another day.
