Description

Macauleys Headland

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Macauleys Trig deserves better. Fabulous views to be had but nothing from the trig. A mowed track just metres away but at the trig, head high grass. And no name plate or even a place to see where one would have been. At least the trig was still there and in good condition. TFTC GCA.

After a morning bushwalk, I decided to grab some easy trigs. I've stayed nearby in the motel and loved walking the beach - never thought to check for a trig up here. I parked and walked a few minutes up a well mowed path and found the trig easily. Shame they don't mow around it - the grass was getting quite long, but not to difficult to walk in and check out the trig. Like most of them down this way, the name plate is missing, but otherwise in good order.

I made it just as the light was fading. Luckily, I have a good camera that can make night turn into day...as long as you have steady hands...or a tripod.

Easy find with a little bit of excitement attached. Have the photo nadf was moving closer to take a photo of the plate and nearly stood on a snake. Not sure olf type but was fat and healthy, Decided I did not need a photo of the plate.

I keep forgetting about the couple on Macauleys Headland as I don't think about caching until after I have gone into Coffs Harbour from Woolgoolga, and it is hard to get to northbound on the trip home. Today I stopped there on the way in. Nice to see a full trig still with vanes, though a bit overgrown to get really close to and see if it still has a plaque. Thanks Geocaching Australia for another one.

Grasses are looking just a little too high for me to be willing to tackle today. I'm probably not quite well enough to be doing a walk like this even though it's so short and not hard at all. But the colour of the dragonZone here needs to change, so I'll do whatever it takes. Haha

Note: Error loading pic through app. Pic lost.

Day 78 Mainland trip (now heading to OZGM)
Out and about caching in and around Coffs Harbour with Tassie Trekkers and took the walk to the trig. Great views. TFTT

No probs - we trekked in along a level track from Richmond Drive, with a short, thick grassy bash to the trig.

04-Jan-19
Found with GrimRaider after visiting nearby Diggers Beach. We found a good access path from Richmond Drive - no need to bush bash through the dunes they are revegetating. The trig appeared out of the grasses - nice one. Thanks for the trig Smile

No-one has visited since 2014 Shocked. Amazing! Nice short walk with ocean views. TFTC.

Good coordinates meant a quick sorting out of the best approach. Nicely mown track and NO RUBBISH made this a really enjoyable walk up to the trig. Found @ 1155. Photos taken. While there is no name plate it is lovely to see the intact pole and vanes in place.
Thanks for the trig 'Trig Hunter' / aka Lost in the Outback

Walked straight past this one on the way to a GC cache [that we didn't find].
Photo taken with Mrs Beetle still on path as she refuses to go bush again after having 3 ticks removed in the last few days.
Thanks.

Robbieracer66 and I came in from Richmond Drive to find this one..a steep but short pinch on a mowed trail to the Trig, Trig just off the trail and quite overgrown but an easy find Smile

A quick one, easy access off mowed trail

Found during an evening walk around the headleand after we had helped a friend do maintenance on a nearby cache. Very Happy

Found after a short walk up the headland from the beach. I first noticed this trig on a topographic map and came to see if it was still here. No great views due to the vegetation, but a short walk will see you whale watching. Cool
