CORSnet-NSW is a precise positioning service that gives users access to fast and accurate positioning and guidance solutions across NSW. In recent years, precise positioning and guidance systems have emerged as useful tools across a variety of applications such as:

• Surveying

• Agriculture

• Construction

• Emergency services

• Mining

• Scientific research

• Asset management

CORSnet-NSW uses the latest Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology to provide an accurate spatial reference network for NSW and support the growing number of precise positioning and guidance applications throughout the State.

How does it work?

The service is delivered by a network of permanent GNSS receivers – known as Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) – that are strategically located across NSW. The CORSnet-NSW network continuously observes and corrects satellite navigation signals in order to achieve international standard, high accuracy positioning data for NSW. The data is streamed to users via a wireless internet connection.

Found this on a trip through Newcastle. Started out as torrential rain but turned into a lovely day.
We couldn't get any closer as a rather busy road was in the way and it was a bit much for the youngest.
The kids got soaked back towards the beach when a wave splashed over the sidewalk. It even got a parked car!

#GA11:00; Day 2 in Newcastle with the geohoney and I set off early for a spot of caching around the CBD before we headed north to Nelson Bay for a bit of sightseeing. After grabbing a few Adventure Labs around the CBD and some other caches, stopped off for a snap of this CORS as we headed towards Fort Scratchley for a couple of trigs. Out touring on the motorbike for a few days solo, although it is far more challenging trying to navigate to trigs on the motorbike I couldn't resist grabbing a couple on the way past. had to stop in Newy and see the beach as it was such a beautiful day. Heaps of people out enjoying the sun. nice and easy one to find

Headed up to the Morisset/Newcastle region with fitzy_1965 & albida33 to do some GC caching. Picked up a few GCA's along the way.

Mad dash across the road inbetween traffic but a simple photo when at GZ.

July 2018 Weekend trip to Watagen National park for the Lake Macquarie History series with Fiztzy_1965 and MinnieK.

A mad rush over the road completed and we were able to get this low level CORS just before heading home.

Thanks

Wasn't 100% sure this was a trig at first, but the base seemed to fit the bill, and the plaque on the sea-side of the mast confirmed it....

Another trig! Thanks!

04-Apr-16
Well that is a fancy trig point. Thanks for bringing me here.

07-Jun-15
Found today on a long weekend trip up the coast.

26-Jul-14
While I was down in the Wallsend area for some assessment meetings I thought I would also catch up with the older son, but he hadn't finished work yet. So then I headed off to find (at least try) a couple of trig points. This is nice and easy, THO I am confused by the alternative elevations that mentioned on the cache page. Not sure how the top one on the page can be altered from 1 metre, but I am certain the top of the CORS would have to be more 3 metres depending on the level of the tide. And certainly NOTHING like the elevation listed in the body of the text of ~30 metres. (Maybe it is 3.0176 metres instead)
Took a couple of photos @ 1930 and then found that several other trigs are closed off to the public at night.

10-Mar-14
Found this on a wonder around this part of New Castle on our brief stay in town.

27-Nov-13
greta day in the sun today, easy find

02-Sep-13
Wandered along the water's edge today while the van was in getting the brakes done. Found this trig. Thanks.

22-Feb-13
Stopped the night just up the road and this would have been a pleasurable walk to except for the rain and howling wind, so we drove instead.

07-Sep-12
I had been here before but was looking for a regular trig point. Now it has changed names and I found the CORS. And now I know what a CORS is!

05-Sep-12
Out on a Trig raid in Newcastle this is Trig number #1 for the day.
One of the newer high tech trigs, easy to spot, it is right on the edge of the water at the Pilots Station.
