Description

Lennox Head Trig Point

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

A change of plans got me here today. My 7th Trig find out 12. A great plan B adventure so far. For a datum-nerd like me, finding a complete Trig is great.. but finding a complete Trig at the end of a Survey Street is awesome haha. I thought at this point that my day couldn’t get any better, but it does, the highlight was only a few moments away at a nearby Lighthouse. Thanks for the cache Smile

We looked for geotrails while up here - there has to be a puzzle final here, surely! Smile

The trig is located in a public reserve in a residential area, an easy walk up the hill. Surf can be seen between the trees accompanied by the sound of waves breaking. There is a walking path beside the trig, a shortcut down to the beach. An old council sign prohibits hang gliding from the hill.

The bush behind this one did not make for much of a photo. I took this shot from the other side looking up.

For some reason we thought we would be heading towards a lighthouse but a normal trig marker was spotted as we neared GZ.
A short walk up the hill soon had me at GZ where the required photo was taken.
No hang-gliding from here - drat!!! That's always worth a look.
Thanks.

found it

Note: Photo didn't load with log through app. Photo lost.

Driving past and spotted the trig point so checked map time for a photo.

A trig with so much potential for water views. Easily seen from the road because all the trees are on the other side. A quick photo at the end of a long caching day.

Grabbed this cache on a slight detour from Byron to Ballina today. I was out and about for work, and needed a GCA find or two so I can have a couple of moves in the Journey or Destination game. Easy cache to find, and there would be a killer view, if only for the trees. Such a big open block is pretty rare to find these days. I bet the land that the trig is sitting on is worth a fortune.

Great trig!

#GA2708 - 07:25; Day five of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune. After a night in Ballina, the plan for today was to cache northward through Ballina to Byron Bay and then on to Kingscliff before turning south for home through Bangalow, Evans Head, New Italy, Yamba, Maclean and on to Kempsey for another overnight stay. After an early start, we hadn't gone far up the road when we saw evidence of a heavy shower not too long before we got there, so we seem to have dodged a bullet and got packed up with fairly dry gear. After finishing off in Ballina, it was on to Lennox Head and another trig. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Day 5 of the trip up the NSW coast with LuckyL10n after the Morisset event. Today was from Ballina to Kingscliff and back to Kempsey. A few more caches grabbed, with most being trigs...

No problems spotting this one and the required photo was soon in the bag.

Thanks for yet another trig...

A quick find after checking out the nearby prize home.

One of two in the area today.

The views back over the hinterland from the trig are great, but only a peek of the ocean is available through the trees.

The trig is at the end of Survey Street!

TFTC GCA.

Visiting the area for a few days to catch up with family. Stopped by to locate the trig. TFTC

I didn't have to park too far away, and this was a lot easier to get to than the last I had just found. Bargain. It is just partly hidden by some low bushes in front of it. Nice to see a fully intact concrete trig with name plate.

Was giving Ms Wig to this one and when we past the water tower she said, oh glad we didn't stop there, I don't like doing the water tower ones.... then when we arrived at GZ and she saw the Trig Point... OK, lets just say it didn't go down too well Embarassed

Nice spot though! thanks GCA!

We spent the afternoon at the beach and grabbed this one on the way home. We were even able to drive right up to it as the paddock had been recently mowed.

I only discovered this trig by a close examination of some topographic maps and visited on a beautiful late winter day. Great part of the world with some wonderful spots nearby. Cool

The second trig I've been able to add to GCA.
