A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

This place is very familiar to me so was able to make a quick find.

We stopped here after finding the GC, thinking this was a trig. It's a trig-style pedestal with a non-standard instrument mount and no nameplate. It's not recognised in the NSW LPI records either. So it's not an official trig. More likely it's just one of the reference points used during dam construction. Most dams have them with typically one near each end of the wall and a third some distance away to traingulate with the other two. Anyway, worth stopping for a look.

Second day of caching in the Goulburn/Crookwell area. The weather is perfect, nice and clear and low twenties, all you can wish for caching. Again a lot of nice caches and a few I missed yesterday, all finished at the event at the historic waterworks. Then rushing back to the Illawarra to make the home event there!
Thanks to all the cache owners for putting out the caches, keep up the good work and nice to have met a few of you last night.

#GA989 - 08:25; Out on a day run from Canberra to Blayney via Crookwell and return with Sol de lune, primarily to collect caches in the History of..... series and anything else along our route, including a few trigs. For the second time in a row we were able to drive right up to within a few metres of the trig. They don't get much easier than that. The happy snaps taken, we headed off down the hill to try for another. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

A nice drive in the country with Tanso to grab some caches. The weather was freezing and eventually we arrived at the dam. It didn't long to locate this one and a quick snap was grabbed in the headlights of the car.

I picked up this trig with GrimRaider on the way home from a weekend in Bathurst. The road from Bathurst was slow with plenty of snow and fallen limbs on the road. We had a magic day and drive home. I crunched over snow and ice to get this photo today! I imagine this spot sees all sorts of weather. Gotta love this country... TFTC Smile

In Orange for a funeral yesterday so grabbed a few today on the way home. Came home via Tuena of course. No idea how to get to the trig safely so took a long shot.

So I'm the first to break the ACT domination of this trig. Found on my way back from Boorowa via Crookwell. This one looked so new I thought it must have had something to do with the dam construction. Some sort of test line. And I think I'm right - I looked to the other side of the water and found another one. Will publish. The one here has 'P1' painted on the side. The other one has 'P3' which made me think there must be a 'P2' somewhere and there was in the paddock below the dam. Forms a triangle. Can't get to P2 though.
