Description
Trig point at Nyngan
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ. A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself. Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps. To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies. Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website. If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Arrived in Nyngan too late to cache yesterday after a long drive from Terowie. Had time to stop at this one for my first interstate trig this morning.

Day 7 of our road trip already, today we leaving Broken Hill for a long drive to Dubbo. Not that many caches on the way and that's good, because 40° does not make good caching weather!

It has taken us some time to work through all the photos we took whilst on our major excursion to get to Brisbane (for a family wedding) via Griffith, Cobar, Bourke and Stanthorpe. It was a great trip, one which we will remember for a long time because of the very different landscape types that we went through, the unique characters of each of the towns visited, the wildlife (we hadn't seen very large flocks of emu roaming before)and the different community activities and tourist features.
Along the way we visited Nyngan and found two GCA trig points and we did record photos of each. The photo attached to this log is of the water tank in Nyngan with the trig point marker (vane type) on top among all the other antennas and markers. It was very difficult to get a clear photo of the trig point but it could be seen from the ground. Thanks Geocaching Australia for the cache.

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1475. Found during Day 20 of my epic 21 day visit to Alice Springs for the Red Centre Experience Event and further travels after that.
Flew into Alice Springs and met up with my fellow intrepid team members Sol de Lune, Albida33 and LuckyL10n for the start of an amazing trip throughout the Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales and eventually back to Canberra. The Red Centre Experience is the main attraction of course, but also on our agenda are a lot of GC Caches, lots of trigs, as well as plenty of GCA Trads, History and Virtual Caches (and maybe the odd beer or two ??!! Smile. Go Clan Cerberus !
Another trig for the trip. We were now heading south and east again, and we managed to get to this trig. Photo taken. Then it was back in the car and off to the next one !
Another trig added to the dragonZone list. I really enjoy finding trigs and also the new CORS that are popping up everywhere !

Two caches at the one stop! A GC and this easily spotted GCA trig. A traditional grey trig marker on top of a white cement silo. Thanks.
Quick find while heading south for a holiday. Stopped here before for a GC cache - didn't think to pickup the trig back then.
A bonus find while on a cache ride around Nyngan...they pop up at the most unexpected places.

There is a huge new solar power station being built just out of town and I was up here on a survey to get comms to it. One part of the job was to check out any local transmission towers (or water towers with comms) that we could shoot back to. Well this has an antenna on it as well as the trig so it was a target. Unlike the other finds today work couldn't even claim this find diverted me from the job even if they were worried.
South Australia 2013 with Sol de Lune. We headed off on 12/4 and arrived home on 28/4. The trip was to visit the SA series so more time could be spent at the Mega itself next year. We did a huge variety of caching around Murray Bridge, the Mid North, Yorke Peninsula and Whyalla Region. Apart from one wet night and two wet days we were able to spend heaps of time caching.
One of Plenty of trigs we saw on this trip. I hope I get the right picture on each trig.
Thanks.

I spotted this trig while doing a cache in the park. I don't normally go looking for trigs, but when I find them and I'm close, I take a picture to log them. That's what I did here. Except, when I got home I discovered that the trig wsn't listed. So I took some coordinates from Google Earth and published it. I guess this counts as an FTF, too, and the second unpublished trig I've discovered this year!
