Description

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Decided to head up here this evening after a very spicy curry in town! Well I did ask for it to be as hot as they could make it. What a silly thing to do, it was like lava! Anyway, it was nice to venture up here to cool down! TFTTP!
Cheers,

Trig Points and Virtuals abound this morning. And a coffee spot with Leaping Goat coffee close by. What more could one ask for ? If there is a brass inground survey marker, then it is covered by gravel surrounding the lighthouse. At least if GZ 0 metres is spot on. Pic of lighthouse instead. TFTtrig cache. rhubarbroad

#GA288 - 17:40; I was out on the north west coast on a Great Aussie Icon Hunt (#5.6) and after a bite of lunch in Penguin, collected a few caches in that area before the geohoney and I headed for home. Dropped by Mersey Bluff to take in the sights and perhaps grab another cache or two. Turned out to be caching Nirvana with three trigs and a number of other caches all accessible at the one stop Dancing TFTC Geocaching Australia Clapping

Feel like it's not the first time I've logged the lighthouse, but it's the first time for this cache. It was probably the other trig that I'm thinking of, and some years before that there was an actual cache too I think. Was here right on sunset which was very pretty. You can't log a lighthouse too many times! Thanks GCA.

We have spent many hours in this area and it is always so relaxing and enjoyable. We have another association with this object - one of our uncles, when he was footloose and fancy free, was in a crew of two who painted the lighthouse many, many years ago. The lighthouse is an icon of Devonport and was the centre piece of the school logo where one of us was Principal for seven years.
