Description

Trig Point

There is no tripod at this trig point, but there is a brass plate in the ground which clearly says "State Trig Point".

Lovely morning for it. Crispy clear after a hum dinger frost on this winter's day. The walk got our feet warmed up !

After a lengthy search for a FTF on a nearby GCA cache we arrived at this one where our GPS was indicating an uphill walk through very dense scrub.
So we decided to give it a miss, that was until we drove about 150 metres further and realised there was a perfectly good track with a 5 minute walk to GZ.
Should really read the cache descriptions as this was probably mentioned in it!
Thanks.

After hiding a cache back around the road I came around to find this one.
The sign at trail head said 5 minutes to the light but I managed to do it it in 2.5 minutes.
Took photo and admired the view.

We started the day with an event at Fingal and headed out to the coast to cache around the St Helens area. We got to this trig just after 4pm on a cloudy but warm day. Nice views back along the beach.

10-Oct-17

After a satisfying day last Saturday climbing St Patricks Head it was off again to the sunny east coast where South Sister was waiting to be climbed.South Sister is 842m high and gives commanding views along the east coast, both north and south and back inland.

My last visit here was to find a gc cache...but back then gca trigs weren't listed as geocaches and for some odd reason, this trig had not been previously listed, until now.

Back then I had my trusty canine companion with me...aka sirius....but sadly his age now precludes him from doing any more bushwalks and mountain climbs, but as soon as I had put my hat and boots on, Murder(the younger of the two canine family....4 yo) started to get pretty excited as he just loves both bush walking and travelling around in the geo fourby.

My eldest canine...Sirius...is now too old(16.9 y.o.) to leave the comfort of his bed in front of the wood heater...which has an electric blanket of course(which he just loves and is great for his arthritis). Having walked 100's of km's with me geocaching over the years up numerous mountains, bush walking along many trails plus along vast stretches of beaches etc while geocaching, he has certainly earned his rest..an amazing companion who never gave up no matter how hard it got for him...a truly remarkeable and treasured companion.

So now Murder has the opportunity to retrace the footsteps of his elder canine mate...sirius.

After almost 3 hrs of driving we finally arrived at the parking bay at the end of a rough and ready track.

From here it's a steady climb up rock steps and towards the cabin, many wooden ladders.

Murder with his long legs bounded up with ease, though mostly rock hopping and avoiding the ladders until going back on the lead for the last ladder to the cabin as there are considerable vertical drops from there.

The views from up here on a clear day are absolutely awesome and I think better than those on St Patricks Head.

After Murder stood in for his photo opp, it was a quick decent back to the geo4by where the journey was set to continue to find some other trigs. An excellent spot, well worth the effort and highly reccommended.

The next trig was at Henderson Point which was quite easy to find and the required photo taken. Great views to be had too...such a beautiful area.

After the last easy trig access, the next trig at Paddys Point was certainly way harder.

Parked to the side of the highway just 120m from the trig, but after bending, weaving , ducking, going up and down I finally arrived at the trig with blood streaming from scratched arms. Just glad I don't wear shorts.....omg...shudder the thought.

Great views from right next to the beach...just superb. I couldn't subject Murder to the harsh conditions so used my gpsr in the photo.

The last trig for the day was St Helens Light, which is very easy to access after a short walk.I expected to see a more substantial structure but was still greeted with great views. Tftc cached...photo of signed logbook from your other nearby cache...cheers ST.

It appears that Sam Carter has a bad influence on me. I only seem to do GCA caches when she is around - and so there were three on this trip. It also may be that, at my age, I'm set in my ways and don't look for the alternative website often enough. Whatever. Speckie view.

After finding the immediately proximate GC cache -- which had experienced an all-time record lady bug infestation the likes of which I had never seen before -- we admired the view and took some photos to meet the requirements of this GCA trig point. The views are worth it ... and the lady bug population explosion is pretty interesting as well.

Getting closer to the 4000th find. Wondering if that trig down the road is logable....

Found at 19:20 on my maintenance trip for a buggy.

Thanks for finding and listing this Trig Point Cached - lovely views across the mouth of Georges Bay and down the coastline from this vantage point. Our GPS however, did show that the trig point was about 12m from the published coordinates. A check of the Tasmanian Survey Control Marks database showed this trig point to be ST960 with coordinates of S41 16.929 E148 21.034 which was 12.9m from the published coordinates. The database record for ST960 is http://surcom.dpiw.tas.gov.au/surcom/jsp/site/mark_search_public.jsp?cmd=search&searchFor=packId&radio=on&packId=ST960&limit=ex
