Description

Kangaloon TS5037

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Kangaloon.

Serial number is: TS5037.

Last Inspected on: January 16, 1979.

Elevation is: 821 metres.

Steel tubular frame tripod with mast and vanes 5.4 metres high.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1505. Found during a Mothers Day run with minniek and B0tman.

Wanting to go for a run on Mothers Day we spotted a nice number of GCA caches around this region. The fact that so many more GCA caches are popping up around the place is just great - both minniek and I are Clan Cerberus and proud of it !! We want to do the right thing by our clan and try to help control caches and zones and ultimately states ! While our focus will always be GC caches - as many as possible - when there are GCA caches and Trigs we will do our best - especially trigs and CORS as I enjoy them so much.

Next find for the day. I really enjoy finding these Trigs and CORS thats eem to be everywhere ! Piccies taken.

TFTC !!

Found it Dancing Heading off to to see a friend in this neck of the woods and realised there was a Trig Point here that I have been meaning to find. Of course it was just as I was leaving town, so I had to back track. Had to collect or I'd forget again, seemed like a good time. Got some Waymarking photos also.

#GA595 - 12:05; I was passing on my way to Nowra and decided to take a little detour to grab this neglected trig on the way past. A nice drive down a narrow country lane to grab the required snap before a tight three point turn for the return journey. Encountered a 4WD on the wya out, but we managed to squeeze past each other Dancing . TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

A beauty. Drove down a very narrow but sealed country lane to find a trig which was something out of the ordinary, no doubt courtesy of the strong winds. Good views in an easterly direction. A typical cool, windy & overcast day.
