Description

Fish TS6290

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Fish.

Serial number is: TS6290.

Last inspected on: May 1979.

Elevation is: 1024 meters.

Trig is a concrete pedestal with mast and vanes.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

Out of on a GC caching trip with friends. Couldn't pass up snapping this one along the way. Newer trig with original rocks nearby and vane in gully not far away.

We seem to be on top of the world. Able to drive right up to the point. Unfortunately the top of down the incline below. Strong winds?

Today was a short last-minute caching trip to this area. So, the only trig completed today. In a big way it was a highlight too. Parked at tee intersection and did the short walk up to trig. At least the grass wasn’t too tall. As with most trigs they give you a good view and this one didn’t disappoint. What an amazing 360-degree view from up here today. Yep I did take a while end enjoyed. As other cache / trig people have mentioned the vanes are down the slope of the hill. I did the walk down to them and they are in good nick. I was contemplating of carrying them up the hill to trig but decided against it. By the way have I mentioned the view oh yes, I have, yep I did enjoy the view and the green fields as a couple of months ago we were in a long stretch of dry conditions and the pictures would have been far different. By the way gust before I log this, I looked at recent photos and the vanes were a lot closer to trig. How did they get down that hill, was it wind or human assistance? Thanks again Clan Griffin

The Road Less traveled weekend two around Oberon. Day 2. This area seemed so remote and being on farm roads there was absolutely nothing else around to distract from the serenity.

Thanks

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1536.

Out and about with specimenX doing the TRLT series as well as many other caches and trigs as I could get to. It was very convenient to drive past this trig so close. Hoofed it up to the trig since the cows were off in the distance. Great views from up here. Pity the vanes are down on this one - still - the base itself is in good condition. Piccies taken and posted.

TFTC !!

Found while taking a small detour off the TRLT road. I actually saw this one from a distance last time I drove past here, but there were too many cows around to risk walking up. Today the cows were off in the distance, so bikerbuddy & I walked up. Then walked down to the vanes.

Found today with whitemushroom on our extended caching tour of the area. Shame the vanes have been broken off and rolled down the slope.

This was nice and easy. The sun was setting on an awesome day of geocaching. This was my last find for the day.

Changed terrain to 2 (from 1) as you have to walk up the hill as can't be seen from road. Pasture thick as are the cow pads so watch where you step & don't slip over. The trig is on PP but the fences run up the hill not along the road. Park at the cross roads.

Grabbed then back tracked to Tarana Rail

The first of a day's cache hunt along the historic Cox's Road. Can just be seen over the crest of a gentle hill/paddock ... no fencing but likely cattle graze across the grasses. None I could see, and an easy stroll up the hill ...but it is a sad sight with the Vanes and tubing in one piece on the ground. Nameplate is intact...and the views of rolling pastures is grand, indeed. Well worth the stop, if the cattle are absent.
A FTF Trig, goodness!
