Description

Fort Denison TS2091R

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Fort Denison.

Serial number is: TS2091R.

Last inspected on: June 29, 1979.

Elevation is: 34 meters.

This passive Trig Point is the wind vane on top of the cupola of the light housing on the Martello Tower. This replaces Trig TS"L" that is still on the parapet and is now SSM22536.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

While on the way I took a shot of the trig on the island.

Nice very trip that it was.

I came from Taronga to the Quay for a schoo,l excursion. I had every intention to bring the SLR and 300mm lens, but all I ended up with was the phone. No good shots of the CORS, but if the trig is the lighthouse, then I have that. I wish I knew I was certain that this thing is the trig...

Photographed when on a ferry cruise a few years ago. Living in Sydney from 1966 - 1978 I caught many ferries in the harbour and Fort Denison always fascinated me. TFTT

Nice day for a walk to the Opera House after a day of meetings. Warm day, but still nice. What better than grabbing a few TPs and Caches on the way.

I needed the GC virtual for a D/T spot & had been meaning to do it for ages. So today was the day! What a glorious winter's day & a wonderful spot. I was met off the ferry by the guide - Romaine, she was super helpful & had met several cachers before. Picked up the other GA caches too, all done & dusted & back on the return ferry within 45 mins. Thanks for a great day out

Today was a day of island hopping: shark island, fort Dennison and cockatoo island! Together with MrMash and Ziggy-AU, Team MavEtJu (Edwin, GeoDirk and HanorahTLG) went on this adventure!

This I've was easy to spot as it was the only thing high in the sky.

Wel as it is not a requirement for a Trig to actually touch it, I made this one a "drive by" on the Manly Ferry.

On an afternoon outing to Fort Denison this one should be easy to find, you can't miss it!
Best view from ground level as the top disappear as you get too close.
