Description

Mulley ECC2 TS?

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Mulley ECC2.

Serial number is: TS number not allocated.

Last inspected on: November 7, 1992.

Elevation is: 731 meters.

This trig like pillar (ECC2) is part of the installation on top of the Lands Department building, these are used for calibration of survey equipment, their position is known to within 2 millimetres.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

Found while doing GA caches around Bathurst with rogerw3.
I have looked for this before, but I wasn't sure what I was looking for. Today rogerw3 took me to a location where I could see the visible part (white post), from the back of the building. TFTT

Wandered around to have a look at these - had an interesting conversation with a staff person about them, but couldn’t spot the main one from this angle.

A man that works in the building gave us some tips on where to locate the 3 trigs.

Sophoutloud and I spent a few days camping with friends at Hill End and then because of the very wet weather that came in on Sunday night they decided to bail and head home early so we had the day to fill by ourselves so what better way to do that but explore a new area and bag some fresh Trig points around Hill End and Bathurst. I have to say all the Trigs we found today were in Amazing condition, I am not sure wether they get repaired here more often or are just vandalised less out here. Either way it was great to see. I am glad it was a Sunday when we arrived at this one, we ended up walking all the way around the building to find the 3 different trigs on the roof top, eventually we got ok photos that we were happy to log

#GA2417 - 13:00; Day five, the last day of the summer sojourn in the Blue Mountains with the geohoney. After an enjoyable few days based in Leura, the time had come to pack up and head for home. It was also time to do one last quick caching run around the area while the other half finished getting ready for the trip. After collecting some caches in Leura and doing a sweep through Wentworth Falls, we were now packed up and headed for home the back way through Bathurst, Orange and Canowindra with a view to adding a few caches as well as a few dragonZones to the tally. We had now reached Bathurst and were headed off to have a look at the Mount Panorama circuit when we stopped off at this NSW Government building with not one, not two, but three trigs/CORS on the roof. Who could resist a stop for a three in one! I think the Mulley ECC2 CORS is the large domed structure in the middle of the photo. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

A Bathurst surrounds trig hunt day with master navigator rogerw3.

A good thing too that rogerw3 was there to guide a confuddled 'mushroom as the long day and a glaring sun gave false hopes. Taken for a walk and shown the error of his ways ECC2 was eventually captured.

A bit of a trick getting this but spotted from the back of the building, at least I assume this is what I was looking for. It's an awkward place to get a view of the roof but done from out the back.

19-Feb-16
While in Bathurst for the Geocaching NSW Invasion Weekend Event I stopped by a few Trig Points, as I hadn't looked for these ones back in 2012 when last here. This one is a bit hard to differentiate from other items on the roof of the building, but made the best of it, by walking further away to see if there was a better shot. Thanks [Late logging, 19/2/2017]

Found this one on a quick drive around Bathurst before hitting the road again for my holiday.
4/6 to make Bathurst region Griffin-Gold again.

I really wasn't sure what I was looking for until a local council worker (Chris) volunteered to take me on to the roof after seeing me circle the building, looking for trigs. I told him I wanted to take photos of the trigs on the top of the building and up we went. From the roof top it was much easier to identify what I was looking for and I think this is the 'Mulley ECC2'. Great to meet a muggle that didn't question my motives and was so friendly Smile

Wasn't sure if I'd correctly spotted this one or not. It was 45 degrees at least here today, so I just took a few photos & hoped for the best. Now I've compared my photos to pjmpjm & rogerw3, I'm happy to see that I got it.

Mudgee trip 2013. With 3 trigs on one building they seem a bit greedy.

Thanks

Another find with pjmpjm during our day's Trig and Geocache hunt in the Bathurst area.
