Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station and photograph the GZ.

Official Code: TS10832

A trig station typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

The data for this trig was taken from the Laurieton 9434-1S 1:25,000 map (3rd series).GR83079797

We weren’t super sure we would be able to get this one with the area developing around it, however we were passing close by so we decided to go and check it out. We were glad we did after driving past a bush block and saying ‘don’t feel like bush bashing today’ we saw a path between a couple of houses heading up the hill. We headed up and it looked like a path that kids had made to head over the hill and visit their mates and make some mountain bike tracks. We kept going gradually up hill and the bush got a little thicker but pretty soon we had the required photo of the trig and we’re heading down the hill. Cool spot, make sure to head back over the bridge and grab some fish and chips for lunch

Well that was a little underwhelming. This trig does not live up to its name. There isn't even graffiti to match the name here! I guess without a track leading to it and the name plate missing the sort that might graffiti a dick here don't come here and don't know the trig name. Can i just say...I was tempted to do the honours. Hahaha.

So this trig was snaffled up after fishing, swimming, fishing again, swimming again, and just before fishing again. Needless to say the number of times spent fishing was because I had no luck... bad luck that continued into the third fishing stop where I wrote this. I gave up fishing whilst writing this log.

Photos attached with this log include the trig with my GPS and myself minutes out of the water, and my little fishing kit I found in the old car and a new $5 hand reel because I didn't want to buy another rod because I have a good one in my other car.

So there you go.
For today at least, Port Mac/Hastings dZ is Griffin Gold.

Dayboro trip. Day 4. Another bright sunny day around Port Macquarie. I headed a bit south to Laurieton for an AL. This region was also affected by flooding, so some caches were not accessible. The final lab in the AL set was in a closed park. Then it was back to Port Macquarie for lunch and the caches around the service center. To finish the day a I did a themed series of caches just North on Blackman's Point road. Lots of fun.

With all the flood damage around, it was nice to get up this hill. Very overgrown at the top, but a nice vane in place.

Thanks.

As we cached nearby we noted this one quite close - ducked up through a vacant lot, then bashed to the top to find an old trig amongst the brush.

I was up in Port Macquarie for a family reunion, so a chance to grab some caches too. This one was on the list.
A short bush bash to this one only to find the easier way back. Rather typical really!

Not much of a view left and certainly no longer wheelchair accessible I think these trigs terrain rating will continue to rise as they age!

It was a short walk through the bush to get to this cache. There was a lovely group of grass trees nearby. The required photo has been added to the Gallery.

Parked at S31º 39.260' E152º 49.280', and then there was almost a wheelchair accessible path up the hill. A bit of track up to the trig from there up. There is no plate on this pedestal, but the vanes are intact. (FTF, after placing it on GCA a couple of months ago.)
