Description

Brown Res TS10448R

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Brown Res

Serial number is: TS10448R.

Last Inspected on: November 1, 1977.

Elevation is: 136 metres.

Trig is a quadrupod on top of a platform with guard rails over a punch mark on the platform with mast and vanes. The frame , mast ans vanes have now been removed but the platform is still in place.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Three trigs here but may have been removed with the work

I'm choosing to stay close to the sea breeze today... if there will be any in this heatwave. Doing a few cases along the coast whilst exploring it. This trig was one of them.

Note: Photo didn't load with log through app, sorry.

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1216 - 13041 overall cache finds.

Found while on a caching run with specimenX down to the Wollongong region - a really fun trip with lots of cache finds. While I mainly looked for GC caches, when an easy GCA cache comes along we go for that as well. Trigs are particularly nice to track down and find. I was very happy when they became part of the GCA cache family. Its especially satisfying if you have made a big climb up for one ! I have also now joined dragonZone in Clan Cerberus, so there are more reasons to find those GCA caches. Its interesting to find the many different types of trigs. From the traditional metal legs and vanes, to the concrete base with vanes, to the ones on top of water tanks (especially the red ones !), as well the new CORS type. When you look on a GCA map and see all those hundreds and hundreds of blue 'Z's it shows just how many there are out there. Shame so many are on private property and cannot be accessed at all. So as far as I'm concerned every trig that can be found and photographed is a real bonus !

The trig was quickly 'found'. Piccie taken and posted. Up the hill to collect the three Trigs up here - nice !

Thanks Geocaching Australia !

I decided to cache my way home from a conference in Wollongong and grabbed some of the nearby Lake Illawarra trail caches. Then head up here to grab the three trigs. I followed up a maintenance truck, which was lucky coz they opened the gate for me and I followed them to the top. This trig was easy and I grabbed a quick shot. TFTT

After working at Albion Park today I headed up for the 3-trig-peat and parked at the gate. Wandering up spotted the podium and res trig, then the real work began for the third Razz Great views from up here.

#GA639 - 11:40; Sol de lune and I had discussed a wild trig hunt in the Illawarra quite a while ago and today was the day we tried to bring home the bacon. We had collected a few on the way down the mountain and in to Kiama, before heading north for a DNF in Shellharbour before heading here for a crack at a three in one. After a bit of a tour of the area, we finally found the right road and made it quite close. This was the first thing we spotted on our ascent of the hill and once the snaps were taken, it was on to the next couple. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

On a day trip with LuckyL10n....

Took a good few minutes and a couple of extra klms to find the way in, but once we did, all three trigs in the area were soon spotted. No vanes here, but you can see where they've been.....

Found and claim dragonzone. That last bit was entered using my phone. My trusty Magellan got me to the locked gate then walked up. Not to sure which is which.

An easy find, the reservoirs are visible from a long way off, but the last bit is foot only as the road is gated but foot traffic to the reserve at the top is fine.
Only the bottom half of the original Trig is left.
