Description

Brown TS1190

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Brown.

Serial number is: TS1190.

Last Inspected on: May 25, 2000.

Elevation is: 125 metres.

Trig is concrete pillar with mast and vanes, easily visible from outside the cyclone fence.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I'm choosing to stay close to the sea breeze today... if there will be any in this heatwave. Doing a few cases along the coast whilst exploring it. These 2 trigs were part of them.

Note: Photo didn't load with log through app, sorry.

our trek around the right of the fence failed. Around to the left proved successful, except for the BIG rip in my trousers.

I parked in a cul-de-sac, scrambled up the embankment and walked up the hill. There were other geocachers here taking photographs when I arrived. Three trigs here for the price of one. This trig was behind a fence. TFTC.

got as close as we could

Three for the price of one. That's good value. No confusion over this one. Had to shoot through the wire fence, but a decent view.

Three trigpoints close to each other, number three!

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1218 - 13043 overall cache finds.

Found while on a caching run with specimenX down to the Wollongong region - a really fun trip with lots of cache finds. While I mainly looked for GC caches, when an easy GCA cache comes along we go for that as well. Trigs are particularly nice to track down and find. I was very happy when they became part of the GCA cache family. Its especially satisfying if you have made a big climb up for one ! I have also now joined dragonZone in Clan Cerberus, so there are more reasons to find those GCA caches. Its interesting to find the many different types of trigs. From the traditional metal legs and vanes, to the concrete base with vanes, to the ones on top of water tanks (especially the red ones !), as well the new CORS type. When you look on a GCA map and see all those hundreds and hundreds of blue 'Z's it shows just how many there are out there. Shame so many are on private property and cannot be accessed at all. So as far as I'm concerned every trig that can be found and photographed is a real bonus !

The trig was quickly 'found'. Piccie taken and posted. Up the hill to collect the three Trigs up here - nice !

Thanks Geocaching Australia !

Parked at the locked gate and strolled to the top. Got scratched by the thorns heading to get a shot but got 3 trig photos on this hill. So worth it. TFTT

After following the maintenance truck through the locked gate and grabbing photos of the other two trigs, I started making my way around the reservoir to grab this trig at the rear. One of the guys yelled out and asked me what I was up to. I told him and he said that someone had destroyed the trig and the vanes were now sitting on the ground near the front of the reservoir. I asked him if I could get a photo and he was very obliging. Pity about the trig though - rotten vandals!

I took the hard road as not to encroach on the waterboard land but then encountered the forest of thorns. Luckily I was dressed in my drill cottons which took a beating but left me relatively unscathed. Better to hope there is a friendly worker who will let you in me thinks!

#GA641 - 11:50; Sol de lune and I had discussed a wild trig hunt in the Illawarra quite a while ago and today was the day we tried to bring home the bacon. We had collected a few on the way down the mountain and in to Kiama, before heading north for a DNF in Shellharbour before heading here for a crack at a three in one. After a bit of a tour of the area, we finally found the right road and made it quite close. We had the first two reservoir trigs sorted before heading around to this one. I headed to the right and Sdl to the left. I should have gone with him as the path I took had become a bit overgrown about half way around and the sharp twigs and branches made for a hazardous journey. By the time I got around to where Sdl was waiting, I looked like I'd been attacked by several ferociuos feral cats with scratches and grazes on both arms and legs. All was good in the end though and the snaps taken. Seems the vanes have disappeared since the last visitor though. Great views to the south as well! Found with LuckyL10n on a day trip through the area...

Walked around the outside of the fence and arrived at a point where I could see the trig without issue. Not sure how LL went going the other way around the fence, but the blood and cuts sort of told me I came the better way!!!!

Spotted the trig/pillar...now without the vanes....

Found, claim dragonzone. Being the goody goody I walked down beside the fence rather than enter through the gap cut by who? Difficult to get past that weed but good view of a new, soon to be 1000 lot housing estate below.

I parked in Coronet Place and entered Mt Brown reserve here as well and only had a short walk to the top, however it is not possible to get up close to the Trig as it is in the fenced off area with the two reservoirs. I was able to get a fair picture from outside the fence and the trig looks in good condition. There are some excellent views to Port Kembla and south to Shellharbour from here.

You really have to read the cache description well to determine wich trigpoint is wich at this location! Furhtermore there is no spot from were all 3 Tigs are visible at the same time.

An easy find, the reservoirs are visible from a long way off, but the last bit is foot only as the road is gated but foot traffic to the reserve at the top is fine.
Follow the outside of the Sydney Water compound fence and this is easy to see. Amazing views from up here!
